so I ended up ordering:

MSI MAG Tomohawk mobo ( has wifi on it so that's nice, was 10$ cheaper than the STRIX and is newer )
AMD Ryzen 5 5700x
16GB Gskill Ripjaws
Corsair RM750e PSU
GTX 3060

questions my peeps: My copy of windows, I understand i'll need to re-install everything, I should be okay with installing linked to new motherboard right? windows was purchased through amazon, I have the physical disc with code.

I believe Windows activation is stored in the motherboard, so it may say your key is already in use. If it does, PM me and I can hook you up with one :)

Also you won’t have to reinstall everything. Just put your old SSD into the new motherboard and be sure to update all your drivers for your motherboard and new components(BIOS, chipset, & GPU drivers etc)

I'm hoping BIOS flash is not needed, do you
mean like update all the drivers after they install from install disc that comes with the new motherboard?

watcha mean I won't have to reinstall everything lol wont I have to start clean with windows install? have basically all new components aside from the SSD.

also I went with 750 Bronze PSU and AMD RX 6600 due to cost savings and time savings. everything arrives tomorrow ( today actually and tomorrow for PSU ).

When you put in new components, you’ll have to install drivers for them. So once you put in your MSI MAG motherboard, you’ll need to Google “MSI MAG TOMAHAWK drivers”(or whatever the exact model of it is) and download the chipset and bios drivers so everything runs properly. You’ll have to do this for your AMD graphics card too

You won’t have to start clean since all of your data is stored on the SSD. Just pop it in and everything will be there.

PSU should be fine as long as you checked that all your components are below that wattage and are compatible with each other

750w and im pretty sure it's a single 12v rail PSU, we should be all fine. from what I saw iirc in a video is that Ryzen 5 CPU isn't a high wattage one, AMD GPU's however can be but again with 750w I think we are just fine. I'm running 3x 120mm case fans, 2x 140mm case fans, 2x DVDROM's, one SSD and that's all she wrote as far as extra power consumption.

I'm glad I won't need to start clean install that will make getting drivers way easier.

Yeah AMD CPU should be fine, I just wasn’t sure about AMD GPUs if they’re high wattage.

You can even start downloading the drivers now if you wanted(but obviously don’t install yet)

I've never had to uninstall my old GPU drivers, but i've only used NVIDIA cards. You should be fine just installing the new drivers after you swap cards
Even recently swapped to a 4070 without uninstalling the old one, but I do use GeForce experience so it may be a bit different for AMD

uh yeah different base tech ( AMD vs Nvidia ) you need to uninstall the old GPU drivers. i've done this a few times a long time ago.
