so yea im not much of a wow player but i ve been into classic recently, saw some videos on gdkp being banned in SoD mode.

i kinda get the idea of it, like you run an instance and instead of praying that u win the loot roll, you bid on the item, but why is it good?

like are the items cheaper compared to AH? or why is it profitable to even do it?

i know its very popular on some old classic era servers, so why is it banned only in sod?

but yea main question is; why people do it and why blizzard suddenly decided its "bad" after so many years?

GDKP system means that loot is held until the end and then bid on using gold. There are generally minimums set for item types.

After all items are bid on the gold is collected in a single pot and distributed to everyone in the raid based on previously established cuts. Usually there is a higher cut for the host and high value roles like tank, heals, and “carries”.

The strategy involves bringing several “whales” who want a specific high value item, and the host will typically bring people competing on pieces to drive the bid value up to maximize the pot.

Benefits:
Quick group formation and generally guaranteed clears

Incentive for people fully cleared to come carry the raid for lesser geared people. You know there will be gold for you, whereas in a typical loot system you might not get anything for your time.

If you have lots of gold you can buy the gear you want

Negatives
Host might run with the pot. See this a lot on Crusader strike

Supports gold buying and botting. It creates a market for getting gold quick. Why farm for 8 hours when your day job lets you get the same gold in an hour.

Overall it’s a popular loot system and you typically can’t buy the bins on pick up awards on auction house. Blizzard banned it on SOD because the botting situation is absolutely dire and gold is cheap. Since SOD is phased based, you might see people have 10s of thousands of gold at 40, millions at 60 due to rampant inflation and botting. So they banned it to try and reduce the incentives for people to buy gold. They’re also increasing detection and banning for botting as well.

GDKP would work great if everyone was on the same page in terms of farming legit and same resources. But if a few people buy gold and you can’t keep up, everyone feels the need to buy gold to get on that level.
