Once a week I work for my sister who runs a mental health program in the suburbs of Chicago which is a city that has more transgender folk then most. Our governor JB Pritzker was one of if not the first to include "gender dysphoria" as a mental health disorder that can receive free government assistance through various programs. I do a 12 hour shift in what's considered sort of like a half way house for people with mental health disorders/addiction/etc. and in the 6 months since the program started the only people to attack staff(my sister included) and threaten to kill everyone were transgender teens and adults ages 21-35.

That's why I think it's even more sad because people with gender dysphoria get basically zero help in other states at least here you can try and help them. I'm not a behavioral health specialist I'm just there as a listening ear and in the case of total mental breakdowns there to call the authorities if people threaten people or just run away. It is open 24/7 and all types of medical professionals are in and out throughout all hours of the day/night. It's basically a place where people can feel safe as they go through some serious shit and it's entirely free.

No I don't hangout with trans people all day but I see them more then most people and that's why my judgment isn't totally biased. My sister does deal with them all day and I trust her opinion 100x over any non-professionals posting on jsp.

3) Just because my sister runs a mental heath program that operates 24/7 365 for people who are in need of help after addiction, mental health diagnosis, or are just "in a bad place" doesn't make me a hero. She had to hire 25 people full/part time and I said I'd be happy to do the overnight 8pm-8am once a week. I'm just there to be a listening ear and let them know it's ok to get help and that there will be professionals who can do that for them. In the 6 months since this program began we've had some negative things happen relating to people who identify as transgender. Every serious incident coincidentally involved a transgender individual physically or verbally assaulting staff. That's why I said transgender people who don't have access to a mental health program such as this suffer. Never said trans people were bad. Just said the situation isn't good.
