Selling the land doesn’t fix the root problem of operating a farm not being profitable.
I hear that but not always the case. Most land is bought to be developed as something else. The farmer in my hometown sold a large plot to a supermarket and other plots to housing developers.
Still has 90% of his original farm and also has a few million in the bank. Literally can live of the interest.
While I accept that is not the case for everyone. I still don't see the logic in subsidising unprofitable farmers further and further.
If you can't make a profit farming land why would you buy land for that purpose and then complain because it isn't profitable?
