So I built this PC like 15 years ago and it’s still somewhat decent, but finally getting back into gaming and POE, Cyberpunk 2077, etc., where I can really feel the lag. So now that I have a lot more money than back then, I want to build the most badass gaming PC possible for around $5k. I’ve been doing a lot of research and this seems like the best components. Any compatibility issues you guys can see or any better options I should consider?
New PC:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BQcjh3Current PC:-Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
-Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
-Motherboard: ASUS P6T DELUXE V2
-Memory: HyperX Kingston Technology Fury Black Kit (6 x 8GB) 1600MHz DDR3L Desktop Memory
-Windows Drive: Samsung SSD 840 Pro Series 2.5 Inch 256GB SATA III
-Gaming Drive: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III
-Monitor: LG 34UM68-P UltraWide Monitor 34” 21:9 IPS Display
I made this a bit more sensible price wise (unless you just don't care at all) for very minimal performance loss, but see my list here:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XTjy28I swapped out the 4090 to a 7900 XTX. It's a bit worse performace (not by much), but has the same amount of VRAM (for future proofing if that's what you are looking for).
Also your MOBO, case & psu were way overkill (switched those down to reliable, yet more than enough performance for your needs).
It total, went from $5200 --> $3600, with maybe a 5-10% performance decrease if that? You would only really tell the difference in the extreme highs and low's in regards to FPS.
Use that extra $ I've saved you on something else because spending 1600$ more on a very minimal increase is just not worth it at all.
Also (unless you care about the look at the PC inside, swap out the water cooling for a tower fan. Cheaper and same cooling performance.
