Currently these are my core hardware parts.

3070ti
i9 10850k

This is my ram:

I got this ram back in 2020 and I think it might be bottlenecking me. Anybody got any advice on whether this is true, and which type of RAM I should aim for?

Looks fine, are you sure you're bottlenecking or what's the issue

That's the highest speed RAM your CPU is compatible with.

Well looks like im set, just maxing at 70/90 frames on a game inlike but im playing in 2k on a ultra wide so it makes sense i suppose.

How would you be bottlenecking your ram? most to all ram dual channel and 32 gigs is now the recommend ram setup for new builds as these newer cpus eat more ram. You should be fine. Getting faster ram wont bring your frames up at least not form what you have. I would just consider tweaking your graphics options on games to make sure you are optimizing everything you can inbuilding using software. Also look into vsync options along with gsync. 1440p is perfect for gaming and aslong as you are getting 60+ frames on 2k you are golden. i run 2k on a 1080 TI so your 3000 cards should run 2k without issues.

^ GTX 1080 TI , is actually a pretty fast card, because its not being held back by all the Ray-Light-Tracing features.

I'm not 100% sure if your cpu/motherboard support it fully , I don't see why not, but anyways if it does....
I would like to believe upgrading from a 16CL to 14CL ( 3200mhz ) ram should give you maybe 3 to 5 more fps ??

G.Skill : 16GB DDR4 Ram 14 Cas Latency
Timing 14-14-14-34
Is about 90 bucks a stick.
there is a sale 2x16gb sticks for $154.99

Like everyone else said, @ 1440p which is what you're gaming on, with your hardware specs unless you're just leaving everything on Ultra for every game, not every game will run above 100fps.

Esports titles run on potatoes basically. - Valorant, CSGO, etc.

Triple A titles that have every shadow/rtx/ultra texture pack/eye candy settings will need to be tweaked to your liking such as lowering shadows from ultra/high to say medium/low (shadow setting really does eat up a lot of frames. so does RTX on high/ultra). Render distance is another resource killer on cpu/gpu.
DirectX11 (last gen gaming) vs DirectX12 (current gen software) uses more resources.
Same with UnrealEngine 4 games and below vs UnrealEngine 5 games.
Example would be playing Fortnite with DX11 settings maxed with your hardware might get 160fps vs Fortnite with DX12 settings with Global Illumination etc maxed you'd get maybe 50fps.
You'll see the performance hit, but UE5 textures/games look amazing right now. Night and day difference IMO if your eyes can even see it.

The preloaded settings like low-medium-high-ultra-max are just that. Preloads.
You will need to tweak it a little bit based on what you prefer, fps>visual fidelity, or viceversa.

I run a 5950x + rtx 4080(upgrade/sidegrade from a 3090) with 32gb of ram with no issues.
There are games that are definitely unoptimized.
Example, when Warhammer: Darktide came out, I was running like MAYBE 60fps with raytracing maxed etc with DLSS enabled + frame generation.
Fast forward a 6 months later, they've optimized the game some more and it runs like 140fps now with same exact settings.

Mind you, I have a 165hz 1440p(aka 2k) monitor that's my main gaming monitor.
a 280hz 1080p monitor(for esports titles or when I want to get sweaty in a game like The Finals)
and the 3rd monitor for straight up reading/youtube/etc. All 27in screens.

Back on topic for this. One of my ram sticks died. If I have a previous generation motherboard, can I still get new gen RAM and just run it until I get future chipset upgrades?

As long as your old gen mb is using DDR4 and there is no other limitations then yes, you can use your RAM.
However if your mb is ddr3 then no, you must have a DDR4 MB to use DDR4.

If you later on investing in better, try to see if you can afford a MB with DDR5 support as this is the newest and fastest (if you can afford it)

When it comes to "bottleneck" if you have 3200mhz rams then yes you might be if you have not activated XMP in your BIOS, as this allows you to run in the correct clockspeed.

Did you enable xmp profile in your mobos bios?
If not google xmp and watch a youtube video. Essentially your ram is running much slower than those advertised speeds. Most likely ram is not your problem but enabling will give a small performance boost.
