I bought my son a new ps5

I had to get a external SSD card to speed up my ps4
Do I need to do that for the ps5 also?

ps5's come with a good amount of storage, if you need more buy a m.2 ssd stick that is ps5 compatible and has a heatsink

If you get an external hard drive for a ps5 it can only store ps4 games, unless they changed something since I bought mine

External HDD can only play PS4 games. You can store ps5 games on the HDD, but they need to be transferred to main storage to play.

External SSD might be different.

Unless you're specifically playing ps4 games , yes. I'd recommend watching a YouTube on how to do it if you're unfamiliar with m2 installs. It's relatively simple but you will have to open up the console to install it.
