Current build:

OS: Windows 10
MB: Asus Crosshair VI Hero current bios 8702
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700x
GPU: RTX 3060
RAM: 24 GB
PSU: Corsair TX750W

Trying to upgrade CPU to AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

Iv rebuilt the pc a couple of times to double check everything is plugged in and seated properly. I went through the process to make sure my bios is flashed to the current update supporting the chipset.

I keep getting a variety of error codes. Mostly D6 and D7. I know its not a GPU issue because I can plug my old CPU back in and she fires right up.

Thoughts/suggestions on troubleshooting? Recommendations on a better CPU I should be using?

support for ryzen 5000 chips was recently added to that board in 2022 so it should work. maybe try clearing your cmos? whenever I install new components I do that. could be a compatibility issue with your ram + cpu combo. worse case your new cpu is defective.

Remember there was a lot of issues with Bios versions on if the x370s can actually truelly support the 5000 series or not (when they got released). Seriously tho, that MOBO might be bottlenecking (even if bios is up to date). Usually you pair MOBO/CPU by generations together this is like slapping a v10 engine in a civic and expecting the wiring harness to just align correct.

Try flashing with an earlier bios revision, see if the issues persist?

Flashed every bio update available that supports 5000 CPU’s. No dice. Think it’s time for a mb upgrade.

Well if you're going for a 12core anyway you should want a beefier vrm and phases.

I have a x570 taichi that I started off with a 3700x and upgraded to a 5950x(overkill) but that's the route I went.

As I increased parts like 3090 to 4080 etc and the 16core cpu I had to upgrade to a 1200watt psu for the thermal headroom.

Just depends on how much you want to spend brotha.

But, if you got a microcenter close by you can swipe up an openbox usually for 15-20% off of retail

Pretty sure you need a new mobo. Mobo does no support that cpu, at least by whats happening. You also need to look into power draw as well on the psu. Never just put a new cpu on a mobo without confirming the specs and voltage. I would get a 850 psu as well. Also look the MB for AM4 and AM5 specs, some amds still work on am4 a lot of the new amd cpus coming out now need am5.
