For my wife. For work, Microsoft office, wedding photography not really crazy editing, Records music.

Macbook pro 16inch, m1 max 10 core cpu, 32 core gpu, 64gb, 4tb, 2600usd
Vs
Macbook pro 16inch, m3 pro 12 core cpu, 18 core gpu, 18gb, 512gb, 2300usd

How much better is the m3.

Or is there a better configuration.
Budget idealy 3k usd

I’d personally go M1 Max, you’ll be losing a little cpu power but it’s still a hefty boi, everything else is better.

That being said, both will be overkill for her needs.

Power of them would be comparable for your use case, but 4 TB disk is massive QOL change for photos etc compared to 512 GB.

Like, 60 MB per RAW probably fills up disks quickly

Definitely better off with the extra storage and ram, the m1 max will likely be more than your wife will ever use in terms of cpu power.

If you're just spending money to spend money then those will both be ridiculous laptops for the use case. Personally, I would just buy a base model M3 and upgrade the ram, possibly the internal storage if you really want. Use the extra money to buy external storage as you need it.

Pretty sure you get 14(?) days to return it even after you open it, so if it really somehow is under powered or something you could just switch it up for free.
