Disclaimer: Currently, RotMG is in the process of rework. So, this guide is meant for its current state at the time of this post!

Starting Classes
The class roster can be divided into attack-based and magic-based:
Attack-based classes will top single-dps charts through brute force. However, Attack-based classes tend to have short range and require close combat.
Magic-based classes will top group-dps charts by weaving abilities using their mana pool. If you exhaust your mana pool, you will lose dps. However, Magic-based classes tend to have long range to ensure consistent dps.

The Wizard is the only starting class. After the Wizard, the next class on the list is unlocked upon achieving level 5 in the prior class.
The Warrior will be the last unique playstyle until Katana classes. In short, further classes are mostly distinguished by a different ability.

Wizard: A staff class with high range and medium damage. A hitscan, the spell is a concentrated blast that shoots outwards from the player's cursor.

Priest: A wand class with the highest range and the lowest damage; bullets pierce mobs and are single shots. In a direct area-of-effect, the tome heals the player and surrounding players.

Archer: A bow class with medium range and medium damage; bullets pierce mobs and are divided into 3 shots spread in a frontal cone. A projectile, the quiver shoots a bolt which damages and paralyzes mobs it pierces.

Rogue: A dagger class with medium range and high damage. A transformation, the cloak renders the player invisible which disengages mob aggro.

Warrior: A sword class with the shortest range and the highest damage. An area-of-effect buff, the helmet rallies the player and surrounding players to enter a berserk state which increases attack speed; a self-buff, the player gains increased movement speed.

1-20+
The maximum level is 20. At this point, the player's stats no longer increase: (Offensive) Attack, Dexterity; (Defensive) Speed, Defense; (Accessory) Vitality, Wisdom; (Essential) Life, Mana.
However, players can drink potions to raise stats to their class' maximum attributes. Achieving maximum attributes is known as '8/8'.
Additionally, players continue to gain experience which converts into fame.

Before delving into stats, equipment (upgrading in tier levels), by far, optimizes your character's power level immediately and, thus, its capability to slay and survive mobs.

Offensive stats affect overall dps.
Attack: Increases damage.
Dexterity: Increases attack speed.

Defensive stats affect maneuverability and damage mitigation.
Speed: Increases movement speed.
Defense: Increases defense.

Accessory stats enhance passive mechanics.
Vitality: Increases passive health regeneration and decreases Out-of-Combat duration.
Wisdom: Increases passive magic regeneration and can enhance the class' ability.
Out-of-Combat is a status that affects your pet's ability cooldowns.

Essential stats increase resource pool.
Life: Increases health pool.
Mana: Increases mana pool.

Progression
Beware, you will die...a lot. Anyways, this section is strictly opinion.

For dungeon ratings, refer to https://www.realmeye.com/wiki/dungeons.
I highly recommend full clearing dungeons in lieu of rushing or anchoring.
SPOILER: Most RotMG endgame is solely full clearing dungeons with other players.
Full clearing dungeons are slaying mobs while navigating into the next rooms. You will achieve more experience, thus fame, than you would in realms.
Rushing dungeons is a great way to learn mapreading and improves navigation by bypassing mobs and reaching the boss ASAP. But, most dungeons now have treasure rooms that include a miniboss with its additional, and sometimes unique, drop table.
Anchoring, usually paired with players rushing, dungeons is a situation where a player stations at the dungeon's entrance for emergency teleports in case another player rushing the dungeon prioritizes completion over nexus.
*Tips for Emergency teleports

-New players will want to play in areas that open dungeons up to 2 graves (difficulty).
It is crucial to familiarize yourself with camera rotation, player-centering, and camera angle.

-At BiS with a sense of player control, begin exploring areas between 2-2.5 graves.
These dungeons will start dropping stat potions, mostly speed or dexterity, and seldom gear.
However, this area is no man's land, the area is closer to the 3-4.5 graves than the previous area.
Mob density and damage are significantly prominent and you'll be introduced to endgame attack patterns.

-If you prefer gear, which you should, consider the areas between 3-4.5 graves but avoid dungeons until BiS.
But! You will start to meet other players that clear, rush, or anchor dungeons like you. RotMG has a dungeon callout system, so start teleporting!
-The 2.5- 4.5 graves will drop Offensive, Defensive, and Accessory stat potions. The area, godlands, has gods that naturally drop speed, defense, and attack potions (seldom vitality and wisdom).
Godlands also opens 4.5-6.0 graves which drop greater stat potions, a stat potion variant with a greater effect.

-Likely, many classes are unlocked by now. Experiment with different classes and start questing to wake event bosses.
Ultimately, looting Essential potions will be your bread and butter. These attributes are the most difficult potions to loot and its potions are the standard currency in the community's economy, a free market.

Pets
For pet ability descriptions, refer to https://www.realmeye.com/wiki/pet-abilities.

a Tier List

When you first start playing, ALWAYS prioritize any egg that has Heal and Magic Heal as its first two abilities to minimize your Out-of-Combat downtime and maximize combat uptime. Discovering the BiS egg will take time.

NEUTRAL: (Durability)
Heal, Magic Heal, xxx = Heal, Magic Heal, Decoy

EXPENSIVE: (Durability into Offense; optimizes durability and provides a relatively endless mana pool early at the cost of dps later)
Heal, Magic Heal, Electric = Heal, Magic Heal, Attack Close (Attack-based short range weapon) = Heal, Magic Heal, Attack Mid (Attack-based medium range weapon) = Magic Heal, Heal, Attack Mid (Magic-based medium range weapon) = Magic Heal, Heal, Attack Far (Magic-based long range weapon)

INEXPENSIVE: (Offense into Durability; optimizes dps early at the cost of durability and a relatively endless mana pool later)
Heal, Attack Close, Magic Heal (Attack-based short range weapon) = Attack Mid, Heal, Magic Heal (Medium range weapon) = Attack Far, Heal, Magic Heal (Magic-based long range weapon)
*Tips for Magic Heal rationalization.

FAQ
1. Do stars equate skill?
Mostly yes. 5 stars, or 15000 base fame, per character usually indicates that the class is consistently slaying with 8/8 stats longer than it has spent achieving 8/8 stats, or level 20, for that matter.

2. How do I teleport?
There are three options:
issue command by typing '/teleport playername';
locate a player on the map at the top right of the HUD, click on a player, and select teleport;
context hotkey and click the playername in chat logs, then select teleport.
EMERGENCY: pretype '/teleport playername' who is anchoring and input the command when necessary.

3. Is it a pay-to-win game?
No. As much as you can buy gear or pet feed power, your skill is entirely dependent on how well you play.
Gear will only affect your character's efficiency and is lost upon death.
On the other hand, divine pets, despite drastically impacting gameplay and persisting through deaths...the controversy is that you can buy the perfect pet and have an advantage over players who started playing at the same time.
I believe that the amount of time a person spends at work to compensate for the amount of time a player spends in RotMG pets is fair.
Anyone can choose to invest money or time into their pets with an equal outcome.
BS opinion aside, a pet will not save your character from an untimely death.
At most, a pet will give you a split second to think "Maybe I should nexus". Which, you probably should.

4. Aren't Heal, Magic Heal, and Electric the best pet abilities?
This combination is legendary. But, electricity is outdated.
The main reason electricity was so important to have was due to a single dungeon, Tombs of the Ancients, being the only source of life potions during Wildshadow/Kabam era. Electricity was the best way to complete 'clean' tomb and, undeniably, exploited mob vulnerability.
DECA, RotMG's current company, has added new dungeons and mob immunities that render electricity niche to rushing dungeons, to an extent. Additionally, most bosses do not present this vulnerability anymore. Lastly, it disrupts kiting tactics against modern attack patterns.

Tips
Capped Magic Heal pet ability often overcompensates mana reserves in solo play and especially group play
In Solo play, different classes usually regenerate mana too fast due to the ability mana cost, innate clearing capabilities, or just do not need to use abilities.
In Group play; not only will players experience Solo scenarios, but ability buffs do not stack, as well.

Wands, Bows (and Katanas) have piercing shots and will clear mob groups faster than other weapons.

Bows, and any weapon with multiple shots, do more damage the closer the players are to their targets as more of their shots will hit. This is known as 'true range'.

There is a ring for each stat, suited for different gameplay:
Health: Allows a character to tank around 200 more damage per full health pool. Great for quick battles against mobs with one-punch mechanics.
Mana: Allows a character to cast 2-3 more abilities. Great for Magic-based classes.
Defense: Decreases chip damage. Great for enduring battles against standard mobs, excluding armor-piercers.
Attack: Increases dps against most bosses.
Dexterity: Increases dps against most mobs.
Speed: Increases movement speed. Great for matching god bullet speed with 40 (+-5) base speed and traversing realms.
Wisdom: Enhances abilities and increases passive mana regeneration.
Vitality: Decreases Out-of-Combat duration and increases passive health regeneration.

The Tinkerer's Daily Quest Room always has a stat potion quest alchemizing 3 single stat potions into their respective greater stat potion and is sent to your gift chest. Great for storing potions without using vault space.

Although money cannot buy fame and vice versa, one dollar is equivalent to about 500 account fame. Gear and eggs can be purchased with account fame.

Personal Keybinds
Note: I use a tenkeyless keyboard and a locked hybrid scroll-wheel mouse.
I find these keybinds more efficient compared to the game's default. And I recommend against free-wheel to have precise control on map zoom.

Toggle Centering of Player: C
Reset to Default Camera Angle: Z
Control Summons: Right Mouse Button
Interact/Buy: X - Highly recommend. The Interact/Buy key allows players to enter dungeons instead of manually clicking the Enter button.
Contextual Interaction: Left Shift - Highly Recommend. The pinky naturally rests closer to this keyboard area.
Switch Tabs: Mouse4
Toggle HP Bars: None
Toggle Log Display: Tab - Highly recommend.
Use Quickslot 3: Mouse3
Show Options: O
Show Servers: P
Begin Tell: T
Show Emote Wheel: Mouse Wheel

Closing thoughts...
If you ever played any MMORPG such as WoW, Diablo, RS, or MS, you may think that RotMG does not have any linearity or it has stale gameplay.
This may strike illusionally true, as the number of mobs is significantly minimal to the vast content of the aforementioned MMORPGs.
Bluntly, there are no mob-level indicators. You will not see a level (x) mob and its level (x+10) mob later in a different location.
Each mob is unique.
RotMG's entire content is available at level 1... with the exception of its class roster.
RotMG differs in fluid gameplay to make up for its lack of lore.
Instead of rotations, timers, or luck-based factors such as critical hits or miss/dodges, the gameplay is more active on micro-level mechanics, such as recognizing and maneuvering attack patterns.
You'll find as much action as you put in. Do or do not.

And yes, you will burnout dying 800 times before achieving your first 8/8. Source: me.
RoT away.
