Still too young
Bron didnt get to a finals before 2007 and didnt win a ring until 2012,
Jordan was (quoting Isiah Thompson) complete trash in the 80's
Luka and Trae have poisoned the minds of fans thinking that if someone doesnt come out of the gate scoring 30 ppg then they are barely a third option trash player, that just simply isn't true.
Right NOW Cade could be a third option ona Championship team that is saying a fuck of a lot, Kyle Lowry was the third option on a Championship team, Jrue Holiday was the Third option on a championship team. Klay Thompson is a third option on a championship team, you are saying Cade is as good as Klay Thompson right now? Imagine how good Cade will be with 2-3 more years of leading a young team.
Way too early to define his career imo.
You need to let it ride right now and hope management can convince a good PG to join the team on a long contract to keep Cade. Maybe they don't win a ring but if Cade can get them to a second or third round by his 5th year that would be pretty decent start to his career no?
historically you usually know really quickly if a lottery pick is a stud or not
just look at the recent break-out young stars
Anthony Edwards - star potential showed in the 2nd half of his rookie season
LaMelo Ball - entire rookie season
Franz Wagner - entire rookie season
Paolo - instant star potential
Ja Morant - instant star potential
Zion - instant star potential
Trae Young - 2nd half of rookie season
Tyler Herro - rookie season
Donovan Mitchell - rookie season
even guys that got lower usage early on, you knew pretty quickly they were studs
Tyrese Haliburton
SGA
Tyrese Maxey
expect Trey Murphy III to join the above group
it's much more rare for a guy to take that leap after being horribly inefficient early. This is now Cades 3rd season and he still has some red flags popping up (granted his team is awful)
To be able to excel in the NBA without elite athleticism, you need to have a deep bag. Luka is able to do what he does because you have to respect his shot, his vision and his dribble. Currently with Cade, you don't really need to respect his shot or dribble - vision is debatable as well with this high TOs…
You can tell Cade relied on bullying smaller players in college and hasn’t yet adjusted to having relatively average athleticism for an NBA player. The hype about him was being a jumbo playmaker but he is built more as a guard than a forward
