Is anyone interested in a eChess section?

Chess.com, iChess, LiChess, etc, the common apps that I have seen.

Would love to see if there is interest besides me.

nope. but if njag put in a multiplayer chess solely for jsp alongside Word Search Showdown with tournaments (maybe even for fg), etc it would be an easy yes

although i like chess, i don't see an immediate need to add a full sub-section for it. i'll have to vote no because the likelihood of seeing "chess" topics flood any current forum-section of jsp, is far-fetched even if possible.
players "could" start their own "personal" topics of versus match requests - win/loss ratios - strategies - etc., in one of the platform sections.

i would suggest posting and without breaking rules ofc, continuously bump a chess thread in the Browser Games section.
if you had a community flood that section with chess stuff, you would evidence of "need".
some of the games being used there are only partially browser games due to the passing of time and Steam. so it can use some fresh ideas tbh.

to be real though, if chess were to ever take off on jsp, i'd imagine it being more popular in the Bar & Pub Games section. and it would have to stay there for reasons.

Chess is a great game if played in person. Online chess a no no as its easy to cheat
