Matthew 16:24-26
English Standard Version
Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus
“24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?”
What will you endure in imitating Christ? How might the world treat you if you follow Jesus? What did they do to Him?
“He suffered great want of temporal goods. Often He heard many complaints against Him. Disgrace and reviling He bore with patience. For His blessings He received ingratitude, for His miracles blasphemies, and for His teaching scorn.”
May we take up our cross and follow Jesus, even knowing it can cost us greatly and be painful in the shedding of our pride!
