Just heard it in a song.
Googled it and apparently between any 2 people there are 6 degrees of separation.

Thoughts?
Pretty cool if you ask me, I only read the first line or so but that's the gist of it.

no its a theory or whatever you call it

basically a freind of a freind of a freind x6
I can relate to you by doing that within 6 steps
I haven't read it fully myself, google it.

It's just a result of probability.
If you assume that people have ~43 friends/close relatives on average, then it'd average out to 6-length chains between any 2 people.
That doesn't mean that every pair has a chain that short though, it's just the average. In a system as big as the world population, there's bound to be outliers that require much longer chains to connect.

Guaranteed I (and the average U.S. citizen) is not within 6 or even 8 degrees of most persons outside our country.

It is an interesting theory though (read about it years ago).

You'd be amazed how wrong you are if you actually tried this experiment. (Though it takes quite some effort to find the "optimal" paths)
The hardest part is to find your 5-step-connection with "that odd researcher who once visited the until-recently-unknown-jungle-tribe", so you could get a 6-step-connection with Mr. Random-jungle-man-in-the-Indonesian-Jungle.

Not saying everybody is 6 steps away, but if you're more than 10 steps away, you should probably get out more. :)

Or the Erdos-number-game.

The Erdos-Bacon-game is even more stupid though. :P
