With literally thousands of slaves and tons of gold I think that is very reasonable.

Seems unlikely that you can get the required manpower to accomplish that speed and have it actually be a flowing working environment though doesnt it? When you talk about man moving that kind of weight without heavy machines a simple mistake could literally cause hours if not days/weeks of delay in building. Imagine moving one of those huge stones and the device/contraption you are using to do so breaks/malfunctions. If for whatever the stone drops on the pyramid in the wrong spot it could be a huge hassle to move it again.

My theory is that we just haven't figured out how they did it. I bet if we conducted a huge experiment we could figure it out. Let's say we:

- Section off a plot of desert somewhere in Egypt.
- Assemble some architects, and tell them they have 50 years to build a pyramid.
- They only get the tools and materials that were available in the era the original pyramids were build of course.
- Also we add in an unlimited supply of manual slave labor and allow them to work their slaves to death as much as they want.

I bet they could figure it out.

BBC did a somewhat ridiculous, but fun story about the construction of the pyramids.

You can find the entire episode in six pieces here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwiic6BoleQ&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLF546914CDD645D9C

Also, the Egyptians did not use slaves to build the pyramids. They had plenty of willing participants looking for work.

I personally think that humans did, however I watched an interesting documentary few months ago. Basically there are is an Island somewhere by Russia, (it counts as Russian territories)
And it has 2 mountains on it, both of them if you stay right in Centre will point directly at the Sirius star just like pyramids do. Might be a coincidence but who knows, we didn't discover all secrets yet. The Islands name is Sakhalin.
