1. Introduction
1.1 Who am I?
Well I'm not the best FC Bear on d2, not even the best on my realm, but I have found another character (another shapeshift druid nonetheless
) that is EXTREMELY fun to play and with the right amount of time/effort can demolish a pub. I've been playing d2 for a long time and by far my favorite character is my Rabies/Fury Druid but if I had to pick a second this bear would be it. For anybody looking into making a character that is going to run over every pub you see without dying look away now because this character has many weaknesses, but IMO that is what makes dueling fun is to try to overcome the weaknesses and make a great overall character.
1.2 Why pick a Fireclaw Druid?
As stated this is a fun character that many would immediately think is a "push-over" in a pub game. When you join people mostly think "lol freekill kk" but the build easily tears through many different characters and can leave people sitting there wondering what is wrong with there build. The best part of making a non-cookie cutter character though is the compliments of people when they see that you aren't just a PvM'er that stumbled into a duel game.
1.3 Pros/Cons
Pros:
Extremely High life
Very high damage
High FRW
4 FPA
Cons:
Can be sorb'd
Stash full of switch gear
No teleport
2. Stats
2.1 Starting stats
The druids base stats are as follows:
Strength - 15
Dexterity - 20
Vitality - 25
Energy - 20
2.2 Stats
Stats for this druid can vary a lot with the different build type you use, so make sure that before you stat your character that you can always wear the gear you may want to switch into.
Strength - Enough strength to wear all gear with all different setups
Dexterity - Enough for Max Block with all setups VS melee
Vitality - Dump the remaining points here
Energy - None obviously, mana won't be a problem
3. Skills
There is two different way to layout your skills for this build, I'll let you decide which one to use for yourself
3.1 Max Life skill layout
This layout boosts your life immensely and is the layout I chose for my druid
20 into Lycanthropy
20 into Fireclaws
1 into Shockwave (This is a very important skill)
1 into Oak
1 into Wolves + Ravens
1 into Cyclone Armor
1-20 into Firestorm
1-20 into Moulten Boulder
1-20 into Fissure
1-20 into Volcano
With the elemental skills you decide which to max, but at level 93 you will only be able to max 2 with about 14 points into the last of your choice
3.2 Max Damage skill layout
This layout allows you to be harder to sorb which is a great help obviously
1 into Lycanthropy
20 into Fireclaws
1 into Shockwave (This is a very important skill)
1 into Oak
1 into Wolves + Ravens
1 into Cyclone Armor
1-20 into Firestorm
1-20 into Moulten Boulder
1-20 into Fissure
1-20 into Volcano
With the elemental skills you decide which to max, but at level 93 you will be able to max 3 with the remaining skill having about 14 points
3.3 Overview of the skills
Fireclaws - Obviously the main attack of this build, depending on which skill layout you chose it will do anywhere from 12k-20k
Werewolf - Used only against HIGH defense opponents like smiters or hammerdins, or when you need that extra FRW from feral rage. This skill boosts your AR more than Werebear, but you lose life, defense, and your 4FPA becomes 5FPA
Werebear - Used 90% of the time and I found it worked better vs BvC's even though they have high defense, Boosts your life, defense, and allows you to hit 4FPA
Shockwave - Used to stun opponents, you will find this skill is a great help in PvP use it as much as you can. *Sidenote - This skill is AMAZING for PvM when baaling or MFing
Feral Rage - An amazing skill that boosts your FRW
Cyclone Armor - Wears off quick but can help a lot in duels
Wolves - Great vs Adjacent attacking enemies like Fury druids and Zealers, also can make smiters miss you on they're first hit acting as meat shields
Ravens - Puts characters into FHR lock, a great help
Oak - Boosts your life by a good amount, always recast this
Fissure - Good for nk's
3.4 Hotkeys
Luckily as a shapeshifter you won't need many hotkeys, the placement of them doesn't matter as much as it would on other charaters but I advise you keep them in between Shift and 'R' as you will hit those a lot
4. Breakpoints
4.1 Faster Cast Rate
The only thing you will need FCR for is shockwave. The FCR Breakpoints for shockewave are:
%FCR - Frames
0 - 18
5 - 17
10 - 16
20 - 15
30 - 14
50 - 13
70 - 12
100 - 11
These aren't that important as the frames are always going to be low, so decide for youself
4.2 Attack Speed
Since a shapeshifters FPA only counts from IAS from it's weapon, the weapon choice is limited. Here are the 4frame weapons you will be using:
110 IAS PHASE BLADE (Either a 6os PB or if you are lucky enough a 4os 40 Ias PB for pure style.) This is achieved with 4 shaels, and to jewels with 15ias/mods (Mods to look for are res or ar)
120 IAS War Scythe Hits 4FPA and allows for a 5ranged attack vs casters
4.3 Faster Hit Recovery
I won't even give you the tables for this one, the best FHR BP for both the Wolf and the Bear are conveniently 86% FHR
30% From bloodfist
30% From Jalals
24% From Belt
Either 7% from jewel or 5% from small charm
5. Equipment
5.1 Helms
Jalas - Hands down the best helm for this build
Socket options:
CHAM - Good if you don't want to use a raven!
20 Life/15res Jewel
Strength/Dex/fhr jewel
5.2 Armor
Enigma - 45FRW, 65+ Str, 5% life increase whats not to love?
Other options:
COH
20/20 Fire faceted In 90+ life armor (Make sure it's light)
5.3 Belt
24fhr/str/life/res Belt - Helps hit the 86FHR Bp and huge boost in life/res
Other options:
Dungos
Arach
5.4 Boots
Aldurs boots - 50% fire res, 50 life, 40frw - Can't be beat
Other options:
Treks
Waterwalks
5.5 Gloves
Bloodfist - Unless you really want to focus on damage these are not replacable
Other options:
Magefist
5.6 Rings
There are a few viable options here that are all about taste
Bul Kathos - Boost in damage and life (doesn't get multiplies by bo/oak/lycan though)
Dual stat ring - Huge life boost
Raven frost - Cannot be frozen/ar/dex
Angelics - Always stash one of these
I personally use a bk/raven or bk/angelics so that if needed I can BM and use wisps/dwarfs/extra raven when needed
5.7 Amulet
3ss/100 life ammy - Just an amazing boost in life/damage
Angelics - Keep one stashed for AR
Other options:
Metal grid
Maras
5.8 Weapon
110 IAS PHASE BLADE (Either a 6os PB or if you are lucky enough a 4os 40 Ias PB for pure style.) This is achieved with 4 shaels, and to jewels with 15ias/mods (Mods to look for are res or ar)
110 IAS War Scythe Hits 4FPA and allows for a 5ranged attack vs casters
Only choices IMO
5.9 Shield
Stormshield - Socket with jah/nice jewel
Other options:
Whistans
Sanctuary
5.10 Switch
CTA/Spirit (highest bo available)
5.11 Charms
9 x Shapshifting skillers with +life (the more the better)
20/xx Torch
20/xx/x Anni
10 x 20 Lifer sc's (Look for mods like AR/Res)
6. Dueling
6.1 Basics
Here are some basic tips to keep in mind when dueling with your bear
1. Bo'ing your oak increases it's skill by 1 as well, which means more life for you
2. Always recast Cyclone armor before dueling
3. Recast oak as much as possible
4. SHOCKWAVE, SHOCKWAVE, SHOCKWAVE!6.2 Versus specific classesAmazon'sHARD Javazon/FC Javazon - Sorb if they FC, your best bet is to shockwave them and hope they FHR lock if GM
MEDIUM Bowzon (Hybrid) - Zig zag chase when they fire arrows, if they start to Fury you try to shockwave/FHR lock them, they will die 1 hit
EASY Bowzon (Glass cannon) - Zig-zag chase them and they will die 1 hit
EASY Plaguezon - They will die 1 hit but dont chase them in a straight line, let them come into your screen to throw plague
Assassin'sHARD Hybrid - Their traps will hurt and sacrificing gear for res lets their ww do more damage O_O
MEDIUM Trapsin - Stack res and you will be fine, it's really a tossup with this duel.
EASY Ghost - Their traps won't FHR Lock you well, Wolf form to gain FHR frames and they should die 3-5 hits
EASY Kickers - Walk in the park no matter what gear setup you use
Necromancer'sHARD Summon necros - They're minion stack is hard to get by, shockwave them the best you can if you get a hit in they will die
EASY -
MEDIUM PnB Necros - Bone prison will break 1 hit, but it will leave you open for a few bone spirits, let them play offensive and they will die 1-2 hits
EASY Poison Necro's - Play defensively, they will die 1 hit
Barbarian'sHARD BvB's - They are a real challenge, Shockwave them and try your best to FHR lock them
Medium BvC's - Only the best geared BvC's should kill you, but if they sorb you are toast
EASY Singer's - They can't FHR lock you, don't worry about them at all
Paladin'sHARD I don't care what kind it is, they are all medium - Hard.. GOOD LUCK!
SorceressEASY All sorcs are easy-medium with res gear on, ENJOY YOUR DINNER!
Druid'sMEDIUM -
HARD Windies - Cyclone armor is tough if they play defensive you won't have a good chance, Hope they play aggressive and take out they're oak fast
MEDIUM Rabies/Fury - Unless they play very defensive it's a 50-50, if they do play defensive then your probably dead :<
MEDIUM FC Bears - Toss up, usually its who hits first. Take the oak first and remember to shockwave
7. ThanksFinally this is a thanks to all the people who helped me with my druid, everyone I've dueled against in West Ladder, Fork for getting me interested in Fireclaw bears, and of course all of you for reading my guide
