Grief is hands down the best weapon.

ive heard time and again that grief > all other weapons, but where is the proof?

i plan to use with one handed whirlwind and fort

how is this true damage calculated with deadly strike?

the reason i am asking this is death cleaver has an extra -8% target defense which can obviously mean a lot

once i have this foruma ill write a basic calculating script to see how effective 35 ds with grief is vs 81 ds with death cleaver in relation to overall damages several hundred times

thanks

Here are the stats (taken from a damage calculator). Using 300 off weapon EDmg, and 200 Strength, the weapon damages are:

Grief Berserker Axe (15EDmg,400 Damage): 2562 - 2886 (avg. 2724)
With 35% DS: 3458 - 3896 (avg. 3677)

EDC (Ethereal, 280 EDmg): 816 - 2412 (avg. 1614)
With 81% DS: 1476 - 4365 (avg. 2920)

Given these results, Grief is better.

However, these numbers do not account for more off weapon damage, skill damage (whirlwind), mastery bonuses, elemental damage, more strength, etc. Also, damage is not affected by target defense. You would be looking at another formula for chance to hit.

If you want to continue your experiment, i'll leave it to your Googling abilities to find the formulae for weapon damage.

I agree

Because even though GriefZ clearly kills faster in actual PvP
I want to see the math before I believe it

! reduced defense calculation
! char lvl is irelevant here
! blocking is irelevant here
! ar = attacker's ar
! def = defender's def

chance to hit = ar/(ar+def)

with EDC: ar/(ar+0.67def)
with Grief: ar/(ar+0.75def)

so if you have -33%def instead of -25%def, your cth are multiplied by (ar+0.75def)/(ar+0.67def)

y = (ar+0.75def)/(ar+0.67def)
y = (ar+0.67def+0.08def)/(ar+0.67def)
y = 1 + 0.08def/(ar+0.67def)

x=ar/def

y = 1 + 0.08def/(x*def+0.67def)
y = 1 + 0.08def/((x+0.67)*def)
y = 1 + 0.08/(x+0.67)

if your ar equals 0.1times his def, you gain 10.4%dmg
if your ar equals half his def, you gain 6.8%dmg
if your ar equals his def, you gain 4.8%dmg
if your ar equals twice his def, you gain 3%dmg
if your ar equals 3times his def, you gain 2.2%dmg
if your ar equals 5times his def, you gain 1.4%dmg

even in the nearly impossible case #1, edc is still no match for grief.

No math is required.

If EDC was better then you'd see every Barbarian using it.
