I made this guide myself for my corp members but posting it here for sharing. Tried to make it simple and clear, I know lots are missing, and also know there could always be something else and/or different. But this is a great help I think for new ppl starting eve, so they wont lost their path. This one is made concerning PVP, but a good part of it is applicable for all the careers. Enjoy..

....

BASIC EWS SKILL TRAINING GUIDE

Alright, everyone trying to become a pvp/pirate pilot should follow or at least should go arround this path, to become somewhat strong enough to start his piracy/pvp activities. This is VERY important, and its not my opinion neither anyones else, but its something that any good pilot knows that this is the way to go as a start.

First of all the Core Skills (This should be done before ANYTHING else. Even if it takes some time, this will be your basic structure as a pilot)
So train all these skills with no exception before you even go out of station to kill someone:
(THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ON THIS GUIDE)

CORE skills for all PILOTS

Electronics 5 - for max CPU grid
Engineering 5 - for max power grid
Energy Management 5 - for max capacitor size
Energy Grid Upgrades 5 - to reduce the CPU requirements of installing power modules
Energy Systems Operation - for max cap recharge rate
Mechanic 5 - for max hull strength
Shield Management 5 - for max shield size
Shield Operation 5 - for max shield recharge rate
Hull Upgrade 5 - for max armour size
Repair Sytems 4 - to be able to operate the best armor and hull repair modules

Train all these skills before you train any other ones, since they are the basic structure of a pilots relation fits-pilot-ship, and will let you use and ships and fits at their best.

i did myself train them all to lvl 4 first, and manage the lvl 5s in between some other small skills to fly some ships and use some modules at the same time, so at least all at lvl 4, then by order of importance the lvl5s:

1 - Hull Upgrades (very important)
2 - Electronics (very important)
3 - Engineering
4 - Energy Management
5 - Mechanic
6 - Energy System Operation
7 - Energy Grid Upgrades
8 - Shield Management
9 - Shield Operation
----------------

After this done, you should focus on what kind of ship you want to go for. Well in EWS we try to focus on small ships concepts, going in fleet hunting down ppl (exemple). So you should pick one tech 2 frigate that fits your prefered combat style (I prefer ishkur myself, since Im into drones). You can also choose between Interdictors or Heavy Interdictors, Interceptors, Recon Ships, Battlecruiser or Heavy Assault Ships. This last one is very popular being such a great ship to use on a pvp fleet. Every pvp pilot should at least be able to fly it. A little expensive but really worth it if well applied.

Heres a list of some nice tech 2 frigates you can choose from, to start with pvp:

Ishkur
Wolf
Harpy
Retribution

-----------------

Some other basic skills to train, you will need them to use many ships and fittings including the use of drones:

Frigate V
Targetting V
Electronic warefare IV
Cruisers IV
Invasive Maneuvering V
Energy Emissions Systems III
Sensor Linking III
Weapon Disruption III
Target Painting III
Navigation IV
Motion prediction III+
Rapid Firing III+
Sharpshooting III+
Surgical strike III+
Drones V
Combat Drones IV
Drones Interfacing IV
All Drone Races Specialization II+
Drone Durability IV
Drone Sharpshooting IV
Scout Drone Operation V
Drone Navigation IV
Jury Rigging III
Trajectory Analysis IV
Tech 2 Weapons Required Skills (Depends on what kind of weapons you use)
Gunnery V
Rapid Firing IV
Weapon Upgrades III

Than theres some other skills depending on if you tank on shield or armor. Such as:

Thermic Armor Compensation III+
Kinetic Armor Compensation III+
Explosive Armor Compensation III+
EM Armor Compensation III+
Thermic Shield Compensation III+
Kinetic Shield Compensation III+
Explosive Shield Compensation III+
EM Shield Compensation III+

As well as the skills that allow you to use certain kind of rigs. (That you shall see and train just the ones you need atm)

If you havent trained the learning skills yet, do this first of anything else. They will make your total training time a LOT reduced.

Now some advices:

Dont go into lowsec with very expensive ships alone, unless you can afford losing them. Lowsec systems are constantly being scanned down by other pirates, who are always looking for these expensive toys. And usually they are never alone and have a big fleet of many other badasses awaiting orders to attack you.
Dont go into 0.0 if you dont wanna lose your ship, cause you will lose it.

You should always think that you ARE GOING to lose your ship. That way you wont be suprised if you actually do it.

They say a good pirate/pvp pilot shall die 1000 times before he learns on how to not die. So if you learn it in 100 explosions you are better then the average.

So from this on, its all up to your own ability to learn this game, tactics, and new improvments according to your style.

NEVER FLY A SHIP THAT YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO LOSE

NOTE: This guide is not finished yet, and will never be. It was written from someone like you learning, and in time it can and it will modified and/or added new things to it.

You say core skills should be done before anything else first, then say learning skills should be done before anything else later on, hehe.

That aside, nice guide. I would say most of the "core" skills can be left at 4 for a while. While it's all good to sit back and theorycraft about how you should train all the core skills first you have to keep in mind that it's silly to ask new players to spend weeks maxing core skills when they should be getting into a properly fit BC/BS to make isk as soon as possible to buy implants/ships, etc.

I would say train learning, then out of the core skills, max electronics, engineering, energy management (thermo is teh sex), hull upgrades (if armor tanking).

Also lol @ dying 1000 times before learning.

This is a guide on how to take forever to build a new pvp char. Yes all these skills you EVENTUALLY want to get around to. Just an example is targeting 5, while this is nice to have, it certainly isn't a necessity. In fact I only have targeting 2 on my 8 month old pvp char. I've never found myself in a situation where being able to lock 4 people cost me a fight. Would it be nice to be able to lock more? Sure, but save it for when you have nothing else to train. Energy Management 5, unless you are in a rush to be able to overheat, this is a pointless waist of about 2 weeks for a new char, same goes for Shield Management 5 for an armor tanker, you can even wait a while on Hull Upgrades 5 even if you armor tank. If you follow this guide, be prepared to wait at least 3 months before you are able to do ANYTHING since just the learning skills alone will take you over a month to train up. All in all, this guide is a decent way to give you an idea of what you want your char to have training eventually, but there is much quicker ways to go about doing things. 3/10

Targeting V is good NOT to lock on more targets, but is a required skill for some other important gunnery skills..

Ofc there are quicker ways, but if I write a guide about one of those ways, your character would follow into a very specific kind, not good for a new player whos still undecided of what is what..

While if they follow this one, they will surely follow the right path and have time enough to learn and later on specialize into something they want while never wasting time..

This guide isn't so good, what hell is with all those useless lvl 5 skills, like you would need lvl 5 shield skills or evasive maneuvering lvl 5 if you're not going to bother with 'ceptors.

Also what's with that "shall die 1000 times", if you had to die 1000 times or even 100 or even 50 times before you learned to pvp you should try some other game that starts with a word World.

Besides all these "train all learning to lvl 4" guides are just pure bullshit, maybe if you're not going to play it for a few months you can learn them, but new players doesn't even have enough money for advanced learning skills to begin with.

You don't even have AWU 3 or 4, yeah go and train targeting lvl 5 instead of AWU.

Gotta love it always tho when some carebear is trying to make a PvP guide :D

Very good guide. It's hard to find good guides out there for new players. The game isn't as hard to learn as everybody says it is. It's just that people are lazy, and do not feel like taking the time to read each skill, or pay attention to the tutorial agents.
