Recently I've been reading a few random posts/guides saying you get extra stats after a failed MQ attempt.

Can someone go into detail on this?

Do I need to complete any objectives along the way to take advantage of this?
How many per failed attempt do you get?
Is there a limit to how many extra +stats you get?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I'm only in the mid 30's on my first play through at the moment and I was trying to find out for myself, but I'm still weeks away from my first attempt.

It has nothing to do with objectives. For feeder classes, you get 1 extra stat point after you fail a MQ (up to 10 total).
For later classes it takes more fails to get more points on a sliding scale.
