Is it better to use a sword or dagger?
Basically just for damage etc.
Noticing a lot of swords with more ee and not so many daggers at a lower lvl.

all weapons have exactly the same average damage.
so the only thing which should affect which choice you make is what proficiencies you already have and which proficiencies you actually want to increase.

Also i expect price will be of interest as well so:
Generally you will find staffs and clubs are a lot cheaper than the other weapons.

i'd be extremely careful in hardcore, for not only will the items be more expensive but if you die, all items will be lost (not possible to get them back).
Main benefits of hardcore is that if you find a decent item it's likely to be worth more on HC than if you found it on SC.

Also i'm unsure you know what items you are buying, you may which to ask someone for suggestions,

you're buying right type of weapon (i.e high level and high ee)
armor: maybe ask? it was not bad at lower levels but you may need new one
charm: again was ok for lower level, might need a new one now

Dagger/axe set, with that, you can play every char in the game except warlock and alchemist, without needing to buy new sets of gear.

I prefer dagger / axe just like the rest of them.

But if you don't intend to spend much, staffs all the way.

If more classes had the option to use them I'd use them more often.
