I would like to share this to those who don't already know. The reasoning for me sharing this is that some people have a hard time coming up with the funds to upgrade
enough to farm elites in act 3+. This results in a plateau that is rather hard to push past. The chest runs are similar to the ones that were patched (Depth keeps).
The only difference here is that your running a little further, so doing this with 4 people in a group is optimal.
Beginners PreparationFirst off make sure you have a set of magic find gear, as opening the chest with this on increases your odds of rares, legendaries, and sets as well as the amount
of items becoming magic tier or higher. To increase the speed of the runs make sure to keep the magic find % gear in your inventory (preferably at the bottom away from loot)
so you can quickly equip it upon opening or awaiting an opened chest.
Secondly, set your skills for things like speed, stun, and things that replenish the required magic for these skills. If you believe you can clear the path to the chest
that is also fine, but there is about a 40% chance of elites being on the way to it.
Third, be sure that your party members understand the map correctly and fully. This will speed up the runs by knowing what to look for and leaving quicker
if its not a map with a chest, or the chest isn't there.
Speeding up the runs-Teleporting to town, then leaving (3 second gain from leaving out of town)
-Leaving before you move too far into the map if you can see landmarks that show its a bad map.
-Using skills like vault, teleport and sprint to move faster.
-Making sure your friends (or partners) are quick to join the group and equip mf gear
-Always have someone stay dead after the chest is opened, as enemies will storm in about 1 second after its opened and someone may not get the loot. Make sure
your and/or they know proper skills to use upon entering the banner to retry grabbing loot so they are more successful. Be sure everyone has said they have their
loot by either saying "good" or "g" to speed up runs. "ng" would imply they are not good, thus in need of a banner to re-loot.
The Chest Runs*The runs themselves are rather simple once you get the hang of it, like anything. Start on any act 3 quest where the arreat gate is open (Seigebreaker quest works fine).
When you enter the game run to the middle gate outside of town. Continue down the posts before the battlefield avoiding the catapults on the two corners along the way. When you come to the
barricade at the battlefields start going directly east until you see stairs wide going up (not the narrow ones going around in a circle) or you might see a short walkway of stairs going
down to a door that is closed (Any door that's already open and says XXX level 1 is not a correct dungeon). If you don't see either of these, but instead see trenches, this
is a bad map and does not contain a resplendent chest.
*The first of the two mentioned is the wide stairs going up. This one is rather easy to tell if its good or bad. A tower with a chest has no guards on it, one without a chest
does. It's a 50/50 chance that this tower will have a chest on it, and a 1/3 chance you will get the tower as a map.
*The second of the two places mentioned is the dungeon called Cryder's Outpost. There is a 50/50 chance it will contain a chest, and they can be in various locations (below are pictures showing exactly where).
This small corridor always contains 1 elite set of minions, and only a few normal types. If you see skeletons, your in the wrong dungeon. Opening this chest does not spawn any minions unlike the tower does.
There is also another map almost identical to 1 with a narrow spot that is not correct. A good rule of thumb is, if you hit a narrow spot its the wrong map.
On map 3, this is the map inside the door that can be opened, Cryder's Outpost.
Feel free to post your battle.net tag and server if your looking for a group of 4 to start with, or trying to get more to join yours. This post was edited by ]GS[ Controller on Jun 14 2012 01:46pm
