Hey everyone.

Since I got D3 I've been experiencing frame rate lag during big fights or around wizards, even on the lowest settings. I currently am running a pretty high end rig so this confused me. After some research I found a fix that allows me to run on the highest settings with no frame rate lag at all. Please note: This only works if you have a quad core processor.

What you need to do is set the processor so it is only using 2 out of the 4 cores for Diablo 3. Somewhere in coding for quad core support they screwed up. So how you do this is

1, Go to the task manager (CTRL-SHIFT-ESC).
2. Hit "Show Processes From All Users.
3. Find Diablo III under Processes
4. Right Click Diablo III
5. Choose "Set Affinity" From Dropdown Menu
6. Uncheck Processors 3 and 4 (or 2 and 3 if they are labeled 0-3)
7. You will have to do this everytime you start up Diablo 3, but it makes it immensely better.

If you have any questions, or know how to do this on Mac please post here as this will only work for Windows 7/Vista/XP

Thanks!

OP, what's your processor?

it looks like you don't have quad but dual core with hyper threading, and you're disabling HT cores. It does indeed speedup some applications.

Phenom II x4 920 - 2.8ghz

I am disabling 2 of the cores. Which shouldn't make it faster, but it makes a huge difference. Now I can play in a game with 3 wizards (highest settings) and have no problem. Before, anytime there was any casting (on lowest settings) everything would move super slow.

This is for quad cores. I dont know how to fix it for dual-core

Yeah, it should make things worse, but it makes the game playable for me. I dont care why it works, I just know it does :).

AH WAIT, it does make sense :D

some processors scale their speed with the amount of cores being used. Less cores used = more GHz on the used ones. This is for cooling reasons.

So basically disable all but 1-2 cores and it'll run on max speed :)

good tip!
