Please only use this thread to reply with questions about fashion and clothes. It is offered to give back to JSP. Donations are welcome but absolutely not required.

Since you frequent HnF, chances are you care what you look like. The hard reality is that dressing well makes you look so much better, and is not that hard. You probably lift. Do yourself a favor and complement that hard work and stop being a virgin (humor barely included). If you're gonna make gains, make them count.
Posting this in HNF since it's probably the most relevant and related forum, and there is a topic on this subject once a week.

Wanna know if something works or not? PM me a pic and I got you.

Conditions
  • This guide is geared towards those that have stopped growing. If you are still young, I wouldn't recommend wasting a ton of money on being fashionable. Get a few nice things for when it counts and be a sloth for the rest. Investing in a nice wardrobe at that age is a waste of money.
  • The fashion guide is very general and works for many parts of the world including varying climates. If there are some specific fashion rules/differences to your region, you are ofc on your own.
  • A lot of things are not hard or set in stone when it comes to fashion. There are guidelines, and then there are places where different people tell you different things. I will stay as impartial as possible. Some of these are my opinion however.
  • Yes you can do what I said you shouldn't. But this guide is for learning and basics.
Men's Fashion Guide
Basic Rules
  • Look for clothing that has VERY minimal or no branding.
  • There are no key stores to look at. Some stores have better things than others. It's up to you to find the good stuff in each store. You will know what to look for after reading this guide.
  • The most important thing about your clothes is that it fits welland that you are (or can pretend to be)comfortable in your clothes.
  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping it simple and safe. You still look awesome. Keeping things simple will make it easier to mix and match your clothing.
  • Purchase clothes that is classic/timeless. More on this later.
  • Find colours that complement you. For example, my eyes are a very nice green so green looks great on me. This can apply to your eyes, skin tone, etc.
Clothing Colour
When you choose what colours you will pair, it's much safer (and easier) to pair colours opposite one another. Colours that are 3 apart are difficult to match. That's a basic rule to go off. Try to keep things at a max of 2-3 colours.

Unless stated, all of these look awesome and should be included in your wardrobe

Jeans
Get a pair of dark wash jeans with very minimal styling. These shouldn't have holes, they should have little fade, no brand or writing and should only have small designs on the back pockets.
There are a million types to choose from (bootcut, slim, straight, etc). These are all about fit. Most people fit well in a slim pair, so start by looking at those. If you don't know how these should fit, I can't describe it in words. I'll edit in a picture to explain this but I can't find it ATM.
Wearing that type of jean will get you by just fine. You may want to invest in a dark wash as well (eg black jeans). These can look good too. Same rules apply as above.

Cardigans
Every guy should own at least one cardigan. Go for a classic Navy or grey. These should be worn with a v-neck t-shirt underneath, or a dress shirt, (or riskier a button t-shirt). With dress shirt, you can go with a classic solid colour with tie, or a more relaxed coloured unbuttoned neck dress shirt. Cardigans vary a bit in colour, pouches and buttons. You pretty much can't go wrong here, these are just really nice.

Looks like this with v-neck or button t-shirt, Dress shirt no tie, Dress shirt clean, tie:

Dress Shirts
These can be worn by themselves, under a cardigan or under a sweater. So keep that in mind when buying, choose versatility. The button cuff should go to the crack between your thumb and hand. You may need to get these tailored. It's not that expensive and makes it look really good.
Look for something that's 1 colour or plaid.
Below are some of my stuff since I couldn't find anything quickly that's nice online. Preferably not Hollister. I was young when i got those. You can see here how we can nicely colour a dress shirt with sweater. The purple colar matches the sweater, and green goes with my eyes.

Sweaters
Opt for simple sweaters. You can always make it look great by wearing a dress shirt underneath, but you should stick to a single colour sweater in that case to be safe. Go for v-neck sweaters, they look better and pair well with other things. See the picture above for an example.

T-shirts
Please, DO NOT get graphic tees. These look stupid. Plus you aren't being paid enough to advertise.
You will want your basic set of plain grey/white tees. Sleeves go to the middle of your bicep. These will pair with a lot of stuff. Since you lift, they probably look good by themselves.
Coloured V-necks and button ups are good too. Do not get plain non-vneck tees to wear by themselves. Here are some samples of mine. White v-neck was more expensive but is 5% spandex so hugs better, is comfortable and is a better fit. Others were 10$ each at quicksilver. Grey is unfortunately AE but shows what kind of button shirt you want.

Jacket(s)
Get yourself a nice fall jacket. This is a critical part of your look. Depending on your climate, this could also be your winter jacket. You have a lot of options here. Leather and reg pocketed are in style now, and will be for at least a bit. If you want truely timeless, opt for a pea coat or something similar. Those are warmer for winter too.

Shoes
You will want some casual shoes, and a pair of dressier shoes. You can grab some really neutral brown/black/grey shoes that can go with about any outfit. You also want a pair of semi-dress shoes for those days you just wanna bring it up a notch. You can get loafers too, sneakers, etc. Don't get converse/skate shoes/etc. You can typically find the sort of casual shoes you want in a store that also sells dress shoes.
For example, I've got some navy shoes that go with pretty much anything. Or when I'm wearing too much blue or want a change, I've got the red. Along with that, some brown dress shoes. Which shoes with which pants, look at the image here: http://effortlessgent.com/back-to-basics-which-shoes-with-which-pair-of-pants/

Boots
Investing in a pair of brown boots is never bad. Does not have to snow. These are incredibly fashionable and timeless. Rolling up your jeans/chinos is a good way to wear them, but is not necessary.

Belts
You should wear a belt even if you don't need it. It looks good. The belt should match your shoes (but I honestly fail at this a lot). Try to nail a classic belt that flips and is both brown and black. You can get a second belt that has a flashier buckle if desired (NOT FLASHY BRAND). You are pretty much set with those two.

Watches
Not necessary. But looks damn good. You are better off looking up advice for this since a reasonable watch is expensive. But my 2 cents is more of the same: get something timeless that is simple and not too large.

That's all I have time for tonight.
I'll be adding the following when I have more time: chinos, scarves, toques, mits, umbrellas.

Hope you enjoyed the guide. Feel free to post any questions.

Nope. You can hide the fact that you're an alpha douche by not dressing horribly :)

But alright, most guys are intimidated by what looks good because they are too lazy or uncomfortable to do it themselves. Not judging.

In any case, took the time to help people. If you don't like it, NN flame, just move on.

Please keep posts to questions. Thank you!
