ya so i've been taking classes in NYC to become a personal trainer. i didn't want to take the online cert because they dont give u any hands on real life experience so thats why i took the classes and i've learned alot.

now i was wondering if there are any personal trainers in here that can give me some advice before i start training people. like common thins i should expect, experiences with working for gyms, experiences with clients, anything you might think i should know.

anyways any info would be appreciated.

You should expect a lot of stupid questions, repetitive myths and bad performances, followed by hints that you- The instructor - don't know what you're talking about.
1% will actually listen to your advice, while the majority will completely ignore what you have to say based on your studies, because "My friend does it better / different and he's ripped" is their major response to academic remarks and guidance.

Don't strain to get them to listen to you and actually do things right. Give your opinion on the subject / situation, repeat once if they didn't understand to the fullest, and the most important thing- Never fight or argue with them. Ignorant people do what they do best, ignore.

Don't expect to make a living as a personal trainer if you're working freelance and if you work for a gym it's a sales job, not really a training job, but yeah.

Helps a lot if you have something unique you can offer (i.e. I shred from 412 to 227 in just under a year so I can claim super saiyan body transformation skills).

find fat clients and help them lose a ton, then you can always use their testimonials

Many just steal testimonials, or pay to fake them.

get good at making friends

sales

and helping people

technicalities are good but far less important then the actual
people skills.

you can charge waaaay more if people like you
even though you might be shit at spotting etc

well i went through an impressive transformation myself i was pretty overweight a like 2-3 years agao went from 230-170 since i've been training went from 170-185 so i think my story might help alot

as of right now i live with my parents and i have no job so i was gonna do this to start making some cash and start saving up so i'd like to get good at it and try and make as much as i can.
