This shield, while providing 45% increased attack speed, is used to mitigate the effects of holy freeze or any other %slow sources on a paladin. With this + a pair of 20% IAS gloves and a grief phase blade, you can completely nullify the effects of a holy freeze aura up to level 16 or so iirc. This means that no matter the level of bm, you always get more smites in than they want you to
