The number of phishing links being posted has been increasing. As a precaution, please thoroughly read this post and pass it on to all of your friends so that you do not fall victim to these scams!

Phishing Link: Phishing is an attempt to criminally acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by making fake links to already existing sites. It is the most commonly used method on these "free giveaway", or "I'm quitting, free items" type sites.

How can I tell the difference between a phishing link and a "real" link??
A phishing link will always have a different URL (internet address) than the "real" link. Always check the URL in the address bar of your browser very carefully, and make sure you are on the correct site. If a site is requesting you to login to do something, close the browser and go back to that site by manually typing the known real address to ensure you are on the real site! If a site is giving away something free, but requires a login, it's probably trying to steal your account(s)!

You need to pay special attention whenever you see "Free Giveaways" that requires you to login to get what is being given away. These are almost always designed and used to steal your account(s). Never put in your information on these pages, even if it looks like d2jsp, battle.net or any other known site. Some sites are created with the sole purpose of stealing accounts, with no other purpose!

At the moment it is fake Battle.net links that are being posted, but in the future it can be something else, so if you see a "Free Giveaway" that requires you to login, never put in your login information!

Important: These links must be reported to a Moderator immediately!

Always use the rule of thumb; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Finally, always have different passwords for all the sites you visit. Using the same password for all the sites you visit is a major security risk.

Thanks for your attention, and safe trading!

Minor edits and tweaks:

New scam method - Be careful.

We have identified a new scam which starts out by sending out pms from "friends" of respected members / Trusted / Moderators.

A few examples:

"My friend (Respected member username) wants to trade with you and he is waiting in game xx // xx."

"My friend wants to buy your items, he is waiting in game xx // xx, his profile is :(profile link of the respected member)."

These users are not real friends of the respected users - These members are impersonating others and scamming in their names.

For your own security and to avoid getting scammed - always have a pm conversation about Game name / Password with the actual member you are going to trade with.
Also use the trade topic for your trades and make sure both of the traders have replied there. As always, use a mediator whenever possible!

If you get a pm from an unknown user about the situation mentioned above please report it immediately

Scam Prevention
The best way to prevent scams is to use a mediator. However if you are going to proceed without a mediator please follow these 3 simple steps! These 3 steps will ensure you have the necessary information for a Scammer Accusation.

Step 1
Always make sure you save PMs arranging the trade. Make sure the game name is visible in the PM.

Step 2
Always make sure you have them post in your trade thread. This ensures they were actually involved in the trade.

Step 3
While ingame make sure they state their d2jsp account. Then when you proceed to make the trade always screenshot the tradescreen. When taking these screenshots make sure you include timestamps. To do this simply type "/time" ingame.

Remember, if you have been scammed do not leave your game!! Screenshots need to be taken and a Scammer Accusation helper will walk you through that when you post in the Scammer Accusations forum.
