To help you about on which kind of TV (plasma, lcd, led), I believe that you may wanna read this link:

http://www.cnet.com/news/led-lcd-vs-plasma-vs-lcd/

They listed some differences between these technologies and these information may help you out on your choice.

Sony or Samsung. More or less the same, go with one of these.

There would be a section for this..

Samsung is very bright and for that I dont recommend for anything unless you will put on a movie mode so you can actually get detail out of the picture.
If it is in dynamic then your reds bleed into other colors and if you watch lets say the Tampa Bay football games. The jerseys are white however they are so bright you lose all detail.

Sont makes the #1 Gaming Television which is an LED becaus eit has triluminous display ( kinda like how Sharp has Quatron )
It has the best Response time.

Look @ Sony or LG for gaming. They will give ya great response times and will give the best detail ( since they are naturally so bright. )

You could get a Sony for right around $1300

You can PM me about any questions. I do Home Theatre installs for GeekSquad.

Samsung makes a really nice TV but they are just too bright. Those who say Samsung is the best is just attracted like a fly is to bright lights..

EDIT:
Phillips, Westinghouse, RCA is all garbage. They have pink hues to them and, response times are horrible and the HZ is usally 60HZ which will result in lagging, ghosting, and jittering..
Get a TV with atleast 120HZ ( dont go by clearmotion of 120hz )

If you have a bright room go for LED.
If you have a super dark room gofor Plasma.

PM me with exactly what features you want..
Smart, 3D, Bright or dark room etc...

Also, wow...
Missed This. Don't even know what to say to this.
Maybe try googling 120 hz vs 60 hz for gaming...
