The characters d2 is using during /fps mode changes every time. Last time it was capital, and lower case "X's."

I've never seen something like that.

Did you change anything on D2? Looks like something's not original, when something like that happens?

Or maybe one of the D2 files is broken, did you try to reinstall it?

Only changes I can recall making are in the options menu while in game. I adjusted resolution, and a few things like that. But via the d2 files, I didn't change anything at all.

I was contemplating reinstalling d2, but it took so long the last time I installed it, that I've been dreading it, and ultimately doing whatever else I can to get around it ><

One of the .mpq install files in your Folder is corrupted, recopy all of them from the CD, and paste them over the current ones. (Or reinstall)

From which disc? D2xpac? Install disc? Or d2 classic?

So, you're saying this is a windows 8 thing? or just beef with new hardware/gpu's?

Never heard this. Easiest way to check would be to use Windowed mode to verify if that's the problem.
