i did a restore on my computer from an old emachines which had a harddrive problem that would make computer restart all the time.

do i need to get a new hd or just a bad install?

Most likely, the disk is failing even though it appears to be working OK. The disk itself and Windows both try to detect and automatically repair errors. If Windows is seeing errors it means the disk can no longer repair them. There are other reasons why this error may show up but you should test the disk ASAP. You should also make sure that any important data on the disk is backed up. The laptop may have come with a program to test the hardware. Otherwise you can google hard drive tests and see if that works. Otherwise I suggest that you look into replacing your harddrive (most likely the case).

Junk the drive.

It's most likely going to fail soon, And that is the drive that had the terrible firmware issues where it would just randomly Brick on startup.
