Ah a question right up my alley:
IBS unfortunately is a very difficult syndrome, especially because there's no precise known cause nor cure.
There are many homeopathic like substances you can use that work on a large population and preventive measures that can help you. I'll try to go over with them with you.
First of all:
What exactly are your complaints? Is there anything else beside the consistent ache? Is this a pain that's there during the entire day or on specific moments? Have you noticed an increase/decrease of pain/symptoms during certain times of the day or perhaps activities.
Have you noticed any correlation with your meals or types of meal?
Are you known with any type of allergies? Have you ever had an allergy test.
It's no simple matter thus I need to ask a lot of questions as you can see.
Next, some general advice while I await your answers:
- Studies have shown that there is a high correlation between symptoms from IBS and your level of excercise and stress. Try to excercise at least 3 times a week for more than 45 minutes.
- Avoid stressful situations, try to identify what causes you stress, if neccessary, you can even keep track of it in a personal journal, identify what gives you stress and try to avoid it or decrease it
- There are some medication at hand you can use but it's wiser to try to contain the situation without using medication first.
Have you tried increasing the fiber content of your meals? The breakfast especially is suitable for this, brown rice also has a high content of this
Plums have a postive effect on your intestine flora as well.
There are some products that claim to improve your bowel movements as well like activia, however, I don't have any experience with this, but you can try it, it couldn't hurt.
- If you have diarrhea you can use medication that contain psyllium vezels (psyllium fibers? I don't know the english name, sorry I'm Dutch) this is a laxative
- A standard anti-diarrhea is loperamide, it's freely sold over the counter
Some things to watch out for:
1. If you notice slime/blood in your stool
2. If you notice a sudden unexplainable loss in weight
3. If you defecation patten suddenly changes from what you're normally used to.
If you notice any of these symptoms it would suggest something other than IBS and you would have to contact your GP
Lmk when you've answered my questions
