For some reason my Favorites playlist on YouTube suddenly became "private" and it's been like this for a while, but I just don't know how to set it back to "public" again
Anyone know how? :|

At the top right near your name or username, click so a menu will drop down. Now select Video Manager, then on the left tab go to Playlists. To the right of your playlists will be an Edit option. There you can edit the privacy settings as well as what videos are contained in each playlist.

But my Favorites aren't in that list, it has its own tab
And when I click on it, there's nowhere to set it to either public or private

I do not see this setting as well anymore.

I remember setting it so no one can see it.
But now I can not find it.

I think you would have to use Beacon's idea and just not use fav. as your default and another tab as your default.

Okay, found it!

Go to the same menu as before, but instead of clicking Video Manager, click on YouTube settings. Go to the Sharing tab, and uncheck the Favorites option.

I tested this myself and it worked; my favorites were removed from view on my channel.
