Here goes.

Using Vista Home Premium x64.

It all started around two weeks ago.
I was getting the blue screen of death (BSoD) every 30 minutes to couple hours if I was lucky.
I never got the error code it gave except for the last one before I reinstalled my OS:
Code
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I was also having internet issues, where I was only getting Local instead of Local+Internet.
So with all these problems I reinstalled Vista clean from the DVD.

I then installed all the drivers from their discs.
My mobo, GFX cards, and monitor all got their drivers/control centers installed from disc.
I installed World of Warcraft (WoW) and Heroes of Newerth (HoN) and tried to play WoW.

Everytime I opened WoW, around 30 seconds into playing it would either:
*Freeze my computer
*or freeze the game, forcing me to close it, then 30 seconds later freeze my computer

I only tried to open HoN once, but it also froze my computer.

I followed some instructions from a different site and used "Driver Verifier Manager" (run -> verifier) to force a BSoD.
(I'll post the verifier steps I did at the bottom)

I've done it multiple times and keep getting this error:
Code
SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION
...
STOP:   0x000000C1 (0xFFFFF9800A5D2FF0, 0XFFFFF9800A5D2FFC, 0X0000000000D1000C, 0X0000000000000024)

So after looking into this BSoD error, I found out I should run the "Windows Memory Diagnostics".
I ran the test, and it returned no problems with my memory.

-------------------------

Before I reinstalled my OS, sometimes instead of a BSoD, my sound would go all effed up and make a "screeching" sound then freeze my computer.
It's happened a few times after I reinstalled also.

-------------------------

There's also 90 updates available via Windows Updates.
Whenever I try to install these it gets to "Stage 2/3: 76%" then it stops, and changes to:
Code
Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes.

I've tried to update 4 times now, and everytime it gives that error.

-------------------------

I've tried doing a System Restore to the furthest point possible (When I reinstalled the OS), didn't work.

-------------------------

I haven't done any work on my computer recently.
The only time the case has been opened in the past year is bit ago to get my Vista CD-Key.

I haven't overclocked my computer or anything of the sort it's entire lifespan.

Here's a quote from another thread I have:
Quote
It was BSoD'ing for like a week before I reinstalled the OS.
It rarely did the "screeching" freeze-up, but it happened.
After I reinstalled my OS, it seems to only do it when playing any type of game or doing something demanding.
Usually, World of Warcraft, however:
When I first got everything back up and running after the OS reinstall, WoW would crash after only a mere ~30 seconds.
I had it running a few days ago for around.. 30? minutes before it crashed.
I haven't checked it in around 2-3 days, but I can now if you'd like to see how long it runs.

Oh, and it can't be an overheating issue, as far as I know.
Because I had my CCC open and my temperature was only at 59 degrees when my computer froze up.

-------------------------

I have AVG Free installed for anti-virus software, and no firewall (Using Windows Firewall).
I've ran Malwarebytes and nothing came up.

-------------------------

I've tried loading "Fail-Safe Defaults" from the BIOS, no success.

-------------------------

Although, at the moment, I've had WoW open for about 30 minutes to 1 hour now and it hasn't froze up/errored out, although I haven't really been doing anything.

-------------------------

Here's the things I do for the "Driver Verifier Manager". ('()' means a circle box (radio box) and '[]' means a checkbox)
  • ()Create custom settings (for code developers)
  • ()Select individual settings from a full list
  • []Special pool, []Pool tracking, []Force IRQL checking
  • ()Select driver names from a list
  • *Put a check in every checkbox except ones that are "provided" by Microsoft

-------------------------

If I forgot anything, I'll edit it in right above the verifier settings.

looks like maybe u got a bad virus and shoulda cleaned before u reinstalled Vista clean from the DVD, maybe try running a cleaner like malwarebytes and then reinstalling. may want to check ur memory maybe not enough that is what im getting from what u described.

Either your harddrive is going bad (which is most likely) or your gfx card is overheating. Download SpeedFan and make sure the temps aren't reaching above 100 on your GPU.

How would my HDD being bad not allow Windows Updates to go through? (Not trying to be a dick, being curious because I don't know)

i actually had a problem with my harddrive like this not even 6 months ago... my computer was crashing after running CS: Source for 10-30 minutes

so i took it to the computer shop and they said the HD had multiple "infected sectors" on it and i needed to replace it

If your gfx card isn't overheating than you definitely need to replace your HD.

get yourself a prog to monitor your gfx card temps, i prefer everest, then stress teh hell out of it in WoW to recreate the crash. Do this with your computer open, and note things such as airflow in/out of your case, how open the air is around your case, dust/debris buildup inside case/fans, anything that will cause temps to be higher or lower. Also make sure your gfx card's cooling fan is spinning properly. Looks like bad graphics card to me. Run scandisk on your hdd and use your manufacturer's tools to test for bad sectors. Also use memtest86. These are things you should do to figure out exactly whats wrong. You will need some cds to burn ofc to use this stuff such as memtest86 and your manufacturer's disk test.
