I hope this is the right part to post this.

So yeah kinda wondering what people use in regards to setting for diablo 2... ever since I came back to playing it 3 months ago it just didn’t feel the same as back in the day when I had my horrible yet at that time good PC.

At the moment I’m running

Asus Gaming Z270x gaming motherboard
I7-7700k Kanu lake cpu
GTX 1070 gpu
16 gigs of ram

And enough storage. ssd + hdd (diablo 2 is on ssd)

It runs sorta ok but sometimes the frames drop for a second down to 20.. maybe less than a second... not only that it feels like it skips frames? nothing like I remembered.

I’ve tried things like compability mode, some graphic settings for Nvidia which I forgot where I found them or i’d link it.

Why is it diablo runs this bad on newer systems or is it because of the OS?

I installed virtualbox with windows XP to test as if I had my old machine and it runs so smooth and good!! No zigzag teleporting, no skipping frames, and heck I think even the colors look better...

TL;DR how can I improve my diablo 2 experience to how it was years ago with XP.

Yes I did tried windows xp sp2 and sp3... still nothing like virtualbox running Windows XP.. big difference.. also why does it run better when it’s on full screen than when it’s on window mode? Maybe it’s something with my setup but I haven’t been able to figure it out.

Worse case run In virtual box i love vb

Yeah one whole day doing baal runs on VB and I’m loving it.. 32 bit XP ftw... I might have to hit up support on battle.net forums but boy are they a helpful bunch, I feel like I’d get more information out of a pair of monkeys. Might just stick with VB though it’s amazingly good

The issue you run into with d2 as far as looks is that the resolution isn't up to par with current monitor sizes and native resolutions. I think the highest it goes is like 600x900 iirc. So a lot of times in full screen it gets distorted and in windows it looks too small or fuzzy. Like for my monitor it just looks so small, and if i maximize it, it gets stretched so bad.

I'd say keeping using vb, that'll be where you get the best optimization for it.

That one glide wrapper which is not allowed to mention here. PM if you can't find the name with google. It's a swedish name + glide wrapper.

I know what you're talking about, I stumbled on it upon my quest to fix my crappy experience... Comments said was ok to use on battle.net but i couldn't find anything on battle.net forums or a blue post saying its OK.. so i'd rather just use VB. Thanks though
