I use these, about twice the price of Zalman's that a lot of people use but I find that Zalman's pick up too much background noise while these don't.

Well I'm gonna buy these and see if it makes a difference.

I'll let you know tomorrow.

yep everyone in this thread are sound experts, really do listen to them. You SHOULD spend 300 $ on a quality pair of headphones to only play games with.

sophia still as illiterate as ever.

I currently use a pair of X12s, but some of the cord is starting to strip as it got caught more than enough times due to being lazy and not rolling up the cord after using it while playing Xbox.

It's definitely served it's purpose for being $60 when I got them, but I plan on getting a new pair of headphones/headset eventually, and just looking to get the most out of my money.

The X12s will be used solely for my Xbox after I get a new setup though.

With the headphones that I linked being 50% off at ~$100, it seems like a steal.

yeah but why would you want to use a decent headphone with a mic ?
the extra soundquality you get from using the headphone is not really necessary for playing league and having skype conversations, is it?
having both in a decent headset for 50 bucks is way more convenient in my opinion.

I listen to a ton of music and also want to get the most out of my experience.

What ever you do, do not listen to this guy.

I have five different headphones/headsets laying around as well as mics.  My opinion is a pair of headphones and a mic just for quality purposes although not necessarily needed with simple gaming (Logitech G35 will work fine for that).  I really like my AD700's + Olympus mic, Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser are also good options for headphones.

I've stopped listening to Poonisher a long time ago.

Headphones + Clip on mic

Your not gonna get anywhere near the quality coming from headset.

Whats your budget?

I'm only looking to spend roughly $100 for a pair of headphones or a headset. The ATH-M50, in the link posted above, is what I'm looking at getting.

Maybe you should check my link and realize that the headphones are only ~$100 instead of jumping the gun and assuming I plan on spending $200-300 on a pair of headphones.

Would it be better to go with a gaming headset or just get a really nice pair of headphones and a cheap $5-10 desk mic?

I'm kind of leaning towards headphones + desk mic but would like to know if anyone has experience comparing the two before I make a decision.

I know that the mic choice doesn't make as big of a difference in quality as the chat program you use (I just use skype) and other outside variables (internet connection, etc...).

Headset I'm considering - http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Size-Gaming-Headset/dp/B005I8INDA/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1368345245&sr=1-2&keywords=steelseries+headset

Also, have a good night, everybody, and do something nice for your mother tomorrow :)

I would go for the ADH 700 in my opinion.

Got the mic. Seems good. Had to do some configuration since it low sensitivity for some reason. It's still pretty low. Have to adjust later.

Now I would recommend getting the AD700 also if you live in a hot area. I live in AZ and the M50s clamp to my head pretty tightly and becomes all sweaty. I don't run AC because shit's expensive.
And you sound muffled to your own ears since noise isolation with M50. That bothers me a bit but IDK about you.

Also if you plan to use the headphones for any phone calls, its pretty terrible. But overall not too bad.

I still prefer headset but thats because I mainly use my speakers for sound.
