Unless you're an audio engineer you wont even have ears well trained enough to notice the "quality" difference between "real" headphones aka studio quality headphones, and a headset.

Inb4 people start pretending they can hear the difference, most of the time if not all the time they are lying and defending a product they don't even use properly.

i own a pair of low grade turtle beaches that were on sale for 50$, had then 6 months so far no issues.

people who have little to no understanding of sound in general will argue that their 200+ headphones are sooo much better than x shitty gaming headset and will never use their headphones once hooked up to a sound board.

if you use programs like Reazon, have a little side project involving music production, or just enjoy fucking around with fruity loops then studio phones is worth it.

If not, no amount of money spent on headphones will justify misusing a product.

Its like buying a F1 instead of a ferrari to do some sunday strolling.

You wont even be able to use half its potential under any normal circumstances.

I was a stage technician for 4 years during my late teens/early 20's. I've done every single music fesitval montreal has to offer and spent hundreds of hours in studio recording with various artists in quebec.

Please buy a normal headset for the love of all that is rational.

I really like my Astros headset. Comfy and great sound/voice quality + removable microphone.

you're so wrong it's not even funny

if you think a shitty headset sounds the same as a nice pair of headphones to the general populous you're retarded

you don't need to be an audiophile to know or hear the difference even.

well
i have speakers, 2 headphones and 1 headset
i switch them around based on the activity im doing
for games where i am using teamspeak and skype im using my sennheiser headset, god knows what its called but it was around 50 bucks, i have it since 2 years and its great
when im playing normal games where atmosphere doesnt matter so much (like league or whatever) i use my speakers
if its loud outside or im listening to bassheavy music i use my akg k181 dj headphones
if im playing games like amnesia or bioshock or listen to stuff like pop music or classical music i use my sennheiser hd 650. i have them plugged into a fiio e17 alpen amplifier because they suck without a proper amp
i dont know if this post helps you at all, but if you have a few bucks to spare you should get a headphone for music and a headset for talking
using an external mic is not that great of an idea in my opinion. you dont need to have better quality on conversations as you do for music

What ever you do, do not listen to this guy.

I have five different headphones/headsets laying around as well as mics. My opinion is a pair of headphones and a mic just for quality purposes although not necessarily needed with simple gaming (Logitech G35 will work fine for that). I really like my AD700's + Olympus mic, Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser are also good options for headphones.

yeah but why would you want to use a decent headphone with a mic ?
the extra soundquality you get from using the headphone is not really necessary for playing league and having skype conversations, is it?
having both in a decent headset for 50 bucks is way more convenient in my opinion.

If you want to just play League and talk on Skype then a headset is fine, especially if your budget is $50. If you can spare a bit of cash then you might as well try for the best performance for our buck, at least thats what I always try to do.

My AD-700's, in my opinion, gives me the perfect balance for the wide variety of music I listen to and the few games I do play.

The only problem with this headset, aside from it looks a big weird, is that the cups are kind of big but easily adjusted to. I think there are modifications you can do to them to make it fit on your head better. Really hard to find anything that beats these for $100 but there are really good options at the $150 price range as well.

Edit: Did this get moved or was I lingering here the whole time? o_o

I use these, about twice the price of Zalman's that a lot of people use but I find that Zalman's pick up too much background noise while these don't.
