Demons Souls was released.
It was published by Atlus in NA but by Sony everywhere else.

For whatever reason Sony didn't want to publish Dark Souls so From Software published itself with Namco Bandai. Sony dropped the ball because Dark Souls was amazing.

Bloodborne is the return of Sony publishing the game. So, you could consider this the fourth instalment of the Souls franchise.
