No one is calling you stupid, that is just literally how these things go sometimes.

My first response should have ruled out any of those simple fixes. <_<

I do not think jsp is going to help solve my issue. I appreciate the help anyways, yall can still help me figure out my next step!

Should I call Sony and see if they can help me over the phone? (I am not very technologically inclined, but I am very mechanically inclined)
Should I try to send it into Sony for repairs? (Will the cost of this outweigh the benefits?) or...
Should I take it up the road to the local console repair shop and chance it with the spanish people running that store?

Yeah, you can back it up on an external hard drive. But if you have a larger hard drive in your PS3 it takes a while to do.

<-- pro scammer here

I believe GameStop will scan the serial number on the PS3 you purchase from them, so if you are going to do the gamestop trick you need to swap out the shell/casing of your old PS3 with the new Gamestop PS3 and return the broken one which is in the gamestop shell (so it matches serial number) and keep the new one with your old shell.
serial has to match the serial on the receipt.
