So I set out to create this Rickenbacker Bass guitar 4001 model that is in FLCL the anime.

And so I had some measurements to start with, and I was able to fill in the rest using a grid system.

Since this guitar is made traditionally neck through body, I will also. and the body will be wings.

So I started out getting all my guides drawn out so templates can be cut.

Next I used the guides to cut out the template for the neck, this is longer then normal because it is a neck though body design.

This was done with a band saw.

For this project I'm using mahogany as it is a good wood for solid guitars, though the rick company uses maple.

I traced the outline of the template on the mahogany and cut off most of the excess using the band saw.

I then want to get a smooth edge to sand, so I am going to use a router that I mounted under the work bench for ease of use.

The template is used as a guide for the router bit and must be secured.

Now that the neck is routed, I will make the templates for the wings of the body. and then glue.

but this needs some sanding first.

And that is day one. day two tomorrow.

Day two.

So I did the same with the body plans as the neck, I taped on the plan and cut it out using the bandsaw, only this time I switched out the blade for a thiner one to better make the turns with.
This went well and worked better then I thought.

I then sanded all the rough edges on the guide so the router would roll better, and be more precise.

Then I lined up the neck and decided where I thought it looked best, I had a place outlined already it just looked a tad off.

Then cut out the width of the neck from the template, and made my outlines on the mahogany.

After cutting out the body from the plank staying about 1/8th in from the marked line. I can now use the template to route the edges.

And Then I have a nice body waiting to be glued to the neck.

Sadly, this is my first snag since I must wait for the binding to arrive before I can continue.
