Okay so this is a bit of an advance issue and instead of just pming paul about it i figured i'd open it up to everyone first. here is my problem.

When playing LS i get extreme lag, most likely caused by packet loss on the network. I can ping ladderslasher.d2jsp.org at an avg of 25ms. I tracert with no drops. I know the port that it is connecting on is 8181 is it possible to make it use a different port since most likely this is due to high volume on this port. If anyone has any other opinions on this or think they know what could solve it let me know i'm open to almost everything. Just to help rule out other common problems here is what i have as a network and have tried.

My network is a 30mb connection shared on a community college network of about 2500 systems. The bandwidth is fine since my ping is still low and i can dl stuff rather fast.
I have updated my flash to the latest. cleared cache and cookies. Hell i've even reformatted this system. I've tried other browsers. Nothing seems to fix the issue.

Question is can LS be run on any other port than 8181? and if so how do you change it to do that? (before anyone asks the port is open it is just high traffic on the port that causes the issue.)

fg reward if your fix works

So you have no drops while pinging ladderslasher.d2jsp.org ?

If so, then I have only one idea in mind: system-graphic-browser problems. (Sorry for generality, but wanted at least put you - hopefully - in the right direction)
Oh and I know you reformatted your system, but maybe it's some permanent defect...

I don't think you can modify the port which LS uses, pretty sure most of that is on Paul's end. You could try some port forwarding, but I do not think that is going to help.

Out of curiosity, why is port 8181 a high volume port on your PC/network? You have other applications or network processes trying to access it as well? I notice you are on a school connection but that should not impact you too much unless they throttle your connection in a negative way (splitting it up and only giving you x amount of bandwith during peak times)

What are your system specs? Operating system and browser? Onboard or dedicated video card? Have you tried playing on Low Quality?

i don't believe it to be the system because it is a laptop and if i take it to a cafe or my home network it works fine.

@jihromeo

8181 is a high traffic port becuase of the amount of utilization our network receives. since 80 and 443 are the most common ports they have to be spread to other ports or there would be huge bottlenecks. they don't so much as throttle the connection as they just allocate the bandwidth of certain ports. and what i mean by that is we have many programs on campus that are notorious network hogs so we put a low priority on those programs. as well as ip's for instance stuff like youtube or facebook is low priority traffic. I know for a fact that jsp isn't in with the low priority group. but also external programs like say symantec that constantly try to update are blocked as well. It shouldn't have anything to do with this issue since they are no where near the same ip or port usage.

Gotcha. Perhaps get a port scanning tool and check to see how much traffic is using port 8181 other than LS, maybe you can limit the other applications' usage or remove them altogether if it's something you do not use.

One last question, your school does not limit/block Flash apps? I know some people that are in certain campuses that block flash programs from running, poor souls.

Also, you never told me if you play on Low Quality or not (within Flash/LS, hit Escape or right-click) That can make a huge impact for those on slower connections, perhaps it may help you as well.

i've tried it doesn't make a difference, i cannot access any port scanning tool because i'm not a network admin, and we do not block flash apps
