It's all preference, in your circumstances, I would look for the best high level (highest EE) on any element and build your set around that.

The high level items are most important, in the mid levels, lower end will do

earth is the best becaause it clogs up the well with dirt

Most well monsters are water based - hence the name - well. You'd want lightning to counter that, Boss is ill informed. Lightning is super effective.

i retract my previous advice earth will clog the well up and you wont get a drop
lightning is super effective which is why the best slasher in the world(mcclain) uses it
