Overkill: The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America

Raidmap
http://www.cato.org/raidmap/

Featuring the author Radley Balko, Policy Analyst, Cato Institute, with comments by Norm Stamper, Seattle Police Chief (Ret.) and author of Breaking Rank: A Top Cop's Expose of the Dark Side of Policing.

Over the last 25 years, America has seen a dramatic and unsettling rise in the use of SWAT units for routine police work. The most common use of SWAT teams today is to serve narcotics warrants, usually with forced, unannounced entry into homes. These increasingly frequent raids, 40,000 per year by one estimate, are needlessly subjecting nonviolent drug offenders, bystanders, and wrongly targeted suspects to the terror of having their homes invaded while they're sleeping. In a new Cato Institute white paper, "Overkill: The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America," policy analyst Radley Balko looks at this disturbing trend in police work and analyzes the drug war incentives that have inspired it - The Cato Institute

Actually it is considered paramilitary by the very definition of the word.

Cops used to be cops.
Now they are only accepting applicants with a lower than average IQ and turning them into enforcement officers.

They are there to collect a paycheck for enforcing the invisible whips (fines, violations, etc etc which are occurring at an increasing rate now) to each of you slaves.

Yes, I just called you a slave.
Prove me wrong.

My best friend is going into law enforcement, possibly SWAT.

Where do you live, again?

I'm perfectly content with being a "slave".

Does this anger you?

when they are ready to become a force ready to assist the military you might have something

until then they are just sworn officers of the law who have been trained in the basics of military assault and have the firepower to serve warrants against an often heavily armed aggressor and rescue hostages when they are taken

stop feeding the childish paranoia

Well if I were a slave I would be someone's property, I wouldn't receive any form of payment for my labor, I couldn't enter into any for of legal contract/agreement, and I sure as hell wouldn't be allowed to own a gun.

I can't even imagine how much people who are actually slaves in world would love to have a tiny fraction of the privileges that I've received just because of where I was born.
