sure, by what you are saying, i guess its 5 cents

but the question clearly says

http://i.gyazo.com/6583e1a62b612f34db242241d9ff1bb0.png

Hammer + Nail = $1.10

Hammer = 1 + x

1.10 - x = 1

x= .10

If the nail is 10 cents the hammer is 1.00

That would make the hammer cost 90 cents more than the nail. Hence it's the wrong answer..... It says the hammer costs 1.00 more than the nail, no .90 cents..

this question is constrained by 2 equations involved... not just one...

h + n = 1.10

h = n + 1

by substitution, 2n = 0.1

n = 0.05

but, the question clearly states that a hammer and a nail togeher cost $1.10

the hammer is $1 more than the nail.

1.05 =/= 1.10

It's actually 1.10 = 1+2x
1.10 - 1 = 2 x
.10 = 2x
x = .5

x+(x+1) = 1.10

0.5+(0.5+1) = 1.10
