2 - Signing Up & Getting Started

The first thing you’ll have to do is Sign Up to be able to play Runescape.
You can sign yourself by going to the following link: http://www.runescape.com/game.ws?autocreate=true&j=1 and follow the instructions.

When you’ve made your account, you’ll be able to login.
Now login with your account and you will get to a Design Screen, here you can decide how your character looks like and give your character a name.
When you’re finished, you will be able to start the game.

Now your road to be a master adventurer begins!

Previously there was a Tutorial Mode. Within the Tuturial Mode, you had to kill a
dragon with the help from a White Knight. You had to help him, because his squire died.
In this Tutorial you would've learned how to use combat, skills, how to remove or equip your armor and weapons and more.
Here's a guide, that could have been useful if the Tutorial was still available: http://runehq.com/guide.php?type=quest&id=0461

3 - The Skills

Runecrafting

Runecrafting is a very useful skill for Magic-based accounts.
The Runecrafting skill allows you to make your own Runes, which can be used in combat or to enchant your Jewellery used in the Crafting skill.
To be able to start the Runecrafting skill you will have to finish the Rune Mysteries Quest.

Crafting

Crafting is a very useful skill.
You can make your own gems, which can be attached to a Ball of Wool to make amulets or to a ring to make gemmed rings.
People can enchant their Jewellery to add nice bonuses to it.
People can also make other items such as leather outfits, which will mostly be used by accounts who will use Ranged attacks.

Mining

Mining is one of the three main gathering skills, together with Fishing and Woodcutting.
Mining is in Free to Play also the best skill to make your money with.
With the Mining skill you can extract ores from different rocks, ranging from Tin & Copper ores to Runite ores.
The Mining skill is the gathering skill used for the Smithing and Runecrafting skills.

Smithing

Smithing is a skill which allows you to make your own weapons and armor.
Mining is the gathering skill for Smithing, which means that the ores from Mining can be melted into bars and those bars can be used to make weapons and armor.
The best armor you can smith yourself in Free to Play is Runite armor.
You can Smith you armor and weapons on anvils, which are spread across all of Runescape.

Fishing

Fishing is also one of the three main gathering skills.
With the Fishing skill you can catch yourself some Fish.
You can buy yourself supplies needed for fishing in the Fishing store or in the Grand Exchange.
Fishing supplies consists of Fishing nets, rods, bait and feathers.
The Fishing skill is the gathering skills used for the Cooking skill.

Cooking

Cooking is one of the fastest skills to train.
The skill allows you to make different types of food such as raw fish, pies, pizza and more.
Cooked food will heal your lifepoints when you eat them.
Some of the food will also boost some of your skill levels when you eat them.
To train Cooking, you will have to use the desired food on a range or fire.

Firemaking

Firemaking is mostly used to make a fire to cook your food.
You can use different logs with each log having a different experience rate to train your Firemaking.
What you will need to make a fire is a Tinderbox and your desired logs.
Firemaking is also a very fast skill to train.

Woodcutting

Woodcutting is the last of the three Free to Play gathering skills.
What you’ll need for this skill is a Hatchet, which are used to cut the trees.
There are many different trees throughout Runescape and each tree will give you different logs.
The Woodcutting skill is the gathering skill for Firemaking.
With the logs you’ll be gathering from trees, you’ll be able to make fires.

Dungeoneering

Dungeoneering is the last skill that has been added to both Free to Play and Pay to Play servers.
You can start this skill by going to the shipyard in Al-Kharid, which is located behind the bank.
Talk to the person and he will take you to a place called Daemonheim.
Walk across the path upstairs to the Dungeoneering Master.
Talk to him and he will give you your Ring of Kinship.
With this ring you can make you own team or you can go do some solo dungeons.
Within the dungeon you’ll have to make your way through to the Dungeon Boss and finish it off to go through to the next Dungeon.

4 - Combat

We have got 7 different Combat type skills in Free to Play, which are: Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranging, Prayer, Magic and Constitution.
Within Runescape we have the Combat Triangle, which means that based on which class you choose you will have a slight advantage or disadvantage to another person or monster. (explained below)

5 - The Combat Triangle Explained

Mages are generally strong against Warriors, because metal armor is more vulnerable to magic, and mages can cast holding spells such as Bind to stop the warrior from moving and make him/her unable to attack.
Warriors are strong against Rangers, because the metal armor has a very good Range defence bonus, while the Rangers have a very weak Melee defence bonus.
Rangers are strong against Mages as ranger-oriented armor such as leather and dragonhide has the best protection against magic, while their arrows slice through mage robes.

Magers > Warriors.
Warriors > Rangers.
Rangers > Magers.

6 - Account Types

We have a few very common account types within Runescape's Free to Play world.
Here's a list of the account types, with a small description.

Main Account
This account is the most used one and is the best to start of with.
A main account will train every single skill that is available in Runescape.

Skiller
A skiller will only train non-combat skills.
This type of account will always stay level 3 and will never train Combat.

Pure
A pure is an account based on strength, range and/or mage most of the time.
Their Defence level will always stay at level 1 and their strength as high as possible.
This means they're fairly low accounts, which can deal a great amount of damage.
The downside to a pure is that they get hit very hard theirselves aswell.

We also have the so called Skiller Pures which is actually a Skiller, but they do train only 1 combat-related skill.
Most commonly used Skiller Pure is a Prayer Pure, which is a level 15 account with 99 Prayer.

7 - Good ways to start Moneymaking

First of all there are 2 places where you can get a amount of money for free.

Stronghold Of Security
http://runehq.com/guide.php?type=miniquest&id=0743

Stronghold Of Player Safety.
http://runehq.com/guide.php?type=miniquest&id=0929

Those 2 places will give you 20,000 Runescape starting coins.
From this money you can buy your first set of equipment to use in Combat and first set of tools to use for Skilling.

Using Combat
When you'll get some money from the 2 Strongholds explained above, I'd suggest buying some Equipment.
Now when you're ready, we're going to kill some cows.
Cows are combat level 2 and can give you a nice amount of experience on lower levels and give you a nice amount of starting money aswell.
Cows drop "Cowhides". Cowhides is a commonly used item in the Crafting skill and therefore sell for a nice amount of Runescape Coins in the Grand Exchange.
The best location to kill cows is in Lumbridge.

You could also use the Non-Playable-Character called: Beefy Bill. (Which can be found North-East of Lumbridge's windmill)
This NPC will transport flour, cowhides and raw beef to your bank for a 10% commision.
So if you'll give him 10 cowhides, you'll get to keep 9. The other one he will keep for himself.

This is a great way to get some money rolling in through the Combat skill.

Using a Skill
The best skill to start moneymaking in Free to Play is Mining.
Mining can get you an amazin profit even on lower levels.
First of all you'll be able to mine Rune Essence if you've finished the Rune Mysteries quest.
Keep mining Rune Essence till you're level 15 Mining.

Now we're going to mine Iron Ores. Iron Ores are very profitable and can give you a great amount of money.
We're going to do Iron Ores till level 41 Mining.
At this level you can buy yourself a Rune Pickaxe for fast Mining.

Now we're going to mine Coal Ores. This is just slightly more profitable than Iron Ore, but will give you more experience.

At level 55 Mining you can mine Mithril Ores.
At level 70 Mining you can mine Adamantite Ores.
At level 85 Mining you can mine Runite Ores.

Those 3 ores are the most profitable Ores in the Mining skill.
It could take a while for you to reach these levels, but when you do money will definitely come rolling in.

8 - Quests

The easiest Free to Play Quest is Cook’s Assistant, while Dragon Slayer is the hardest.
