Section I. Introduction
Introduction
• Hello everyone I am making this guide in order to help jsp users how to get started with Runescape. It is also my goal to better your knowledge about how skills, navigating, quests, and mini games work. Have fun reading my guide!!! Feel free to

Getting Started
• First you must make an account:
https://create.runescape.com/index.ws
• Then you will begin customizing your character's visual. Once you are finished you are ready to start Tutorial Island!
• Follow the steps it gives you to run through Tutorial Island. You will see people on the way to help you as you progress.
• Once you finish Tutorial Island you are ready to start your adventure including 24 different skills!
• You will be playing with over 5 million players in this great game where you can interact and have fun together.
Section II. Skills
Brief Explanation of Skills
•
Attack:
This skill is how accurate your attacks are and is required to use all weapons expect bronze and iron.
•
Strength:
This skill is how hard your attacks hit and is required by some weapons.
•
Defense:
This skill allows you to wear different types of armor depending on the level and will provide great protection.
•
Hit-points:
This skill is how much life you have and you level it up while you level attack strength, deffence, attack, magic or range.
•
Prayer:
This skill allows you to use prayers to boost your damage/defense/attack rating protect you from different types of attacks.
•
Magic:
This skill is a magic based attack and does not require any of the above skills to do good damage.
•
Cooking:
Cooking allows you to cook different types of food that heal you when your hit-points are running low.
•
Woodcutting:
Woodcutting allows you to cut down trees and get log's to level fire-making, fletching or construction.
•
Fletching:
Fletching allows you to make bows, crossbows, arrows, and bolts.
•
Fishing:
Fishing allows you to catch fish that you can cook and then use to heal yourself.
•
Firemaking:
Firemaking allows you to make fires to cook your food anywhere.
•
Crafting:
Crafting allows you to make range based armor, cut gems, make weapons and make jewelery.
•
Smithing:
Smithing allows you to make melee based armor and weapons.
•
Mining:
Mining allows you to mine the rocks required to make different types of armor and weapons threw smithing.
•
Herblore:
Herblore allows you to make potions that can boost your stats and recover your prayer.
•
Agility:
Agility allows you to use shortcuts to shorten your trips around the Runescape world.
•
Thieving:
Thieving allows you to steal from stands and NCPs .
•
Slayer:
Slayer allows you to kill different types of monsters for good item drops.
•
Farming:
Farming allows you to farm different things like trees, plants, herbs and much more.
•
Rune-crafting:
Rune-crafting allows you to make runes for magic attacks.
•
Hunter:
Hunter allows you to catch different types of things such as red chincompa's used for leveling range.
•
Construction:
Construction allows you to build your very own house.
•
Summoning:
Summoning allows you to summon a helper to help you in your combat.
Section III. Navigating
Map
For all new players I suggest getting a beginners map from any general store. There is also a world map on your right hand side of your screen that when you click on it, will bring up the entire world of Runescape. You can search for different places you need to go on from this screen.
Section IV. Quests and Mini Games
Quests
There are lots of quests available to do and are very useful because it allows you to use different items and do a variety of different things.
List of Free Quests
•
Black Knight's
The black knights are up to no good. You are hired by the white knights to spy on them and uncover their evil scheme.
Requirements:
Must be able to survive attacks from level 33 knights and 13 Quest Points.
Items Needed:
Bronze med helm, Iron chainbody, and Cabbage (Only use the ones near the Monastery)
Reward:
2500
•
Cook's Assistant
The Duke of Lumbridge is having a birthday but the Cook has forgotten to buy the ingredients for the cake.
Tip:
This is the quest most people do first because its by far the easiest out there.
Items needed:
Bucket
Reward:
300 Cooking XP and permission to use the Cook's range (the Cook's range has less chance of burning an item).

Demon Slayer:
Wizards of the dark arts have freed the ancient demon Delrith. Find out how to imprison him again before its too late and he destroys Varrock.
Requirements:
Able to defeat an apocalyptic demon (level 27) 25 Bones, and 1 coin.
Reward:
Silverlight(sword)

Doric's Quest:
Doric the dwarf is happy to let you use his anvils but first he would like you to run an errand for him.
Requirements:
15 Mining is a huge advantage Any type of pickaxe
Reward:
1300 Mining XP, 180 Coins, and permission to use Doric's anvils
•
Ernest the Chicken:
Veronica is very worried. Her fiancee went into the big spooky manor house to ask for directions. An hour later and he's still not out yet.
Requirements:
Spade (shovel)
Reward:
300 Coins
•
Goblin Diplomacy:
There's a disturbance in the goblin village. Help the goblins solve their dispute so the world doesn't have to worry about rioting goblins
Requirements:
3 Brown Goblin mails, 2 Woad leaves, 3 Redberries, 2 Onions, and 15 gp (35 gp if you don't have Woad leaves).
Reward:
200 Crafting XP and 1 Gold bar
•
Imp Catcher:
The Wizard Grayzag has summoned hundreds of little imps. They have stolen a lot of things belonging to the Wizard Mizgog including his magic beads.
Requirements:
Red bead, White bead, Black bead and a Yellow bead
Reward:
875 Magic experience and an Amulet of Accuracy (+4 All Stats).

The Knight's Sword:
Sir Vyvin's squire is in trouble. He has accidentally lost Sir Vyvin's ceremonial sword. Help him find a replacement without Sir Vyvin finding out.
Requirements:
Level 10 mining. Some running past Ice giants and Ice warriors is necessary for lower levels Pickaxe, Redberry pie, 2 Iron bars
Reward:
12,725 Smithing EXP

Learning the Ropes (Tutorial Guide):
Welcome to RuneScape! Sir Vant, a White Knight, needs your help: he has found a three-headed dragon underneath Lumbridge! Unfortunately, he has not had time to prepare for it, and he needs your help. Before he tells you what he needs, the dragon attacks! This quest will tell you all about the basics of the game.
Requirements:
none
Reward:
2 Reward lamps, both granting 250 XP in the skill of your choice; Freedom to chat, Access to the rest of RuneScape.
•
Pirate's Treasure:
Redbeard Frank knows where secret pirate treasure is hidden; it may require some work to persuade him to let you know where, though.
Requirements:
60 coins, a White apron, and a Spade
Reward:
450 coins, an Emerald, a Gold ring, and the Pay-fare option to go to and from Karamja.
•
Prince Ali Rescue:
Prince Ali of Al Kharid has been kidnapped by the scheming Lady Keli. You are hired to stage a rescue mission.
Requirements:
Rope, 10gp (or a Dueling Ring and/or a charged Amulet of Glory), 3 Balls of wool, Yellow dye, Redberries, Bucket of water, Pot of flour, Ashes, Pink skirt, 3 Beers, Soft clay, and a Bronze bar.
Reward:
700gp, permission to pass through the Al Kharid gate for free

The Restless Ghost:
A ghost is haunting Lumbridge graveyard. The priest of the Lumbridge church of Saradomin wants you to find out how to get rid of it.
Requirements:
none
Reward:
1125 Prayer exp
•
Romeo and Juliet:
Romeo and Juliet are desperately in love, but Juliet's father doesn't approve. Help them to find a way to get married and live happily ever after.
Requirements:
none
Reward:
None.
•
Rune Mysteries:
Recent research at the Wizards Tower has found a way to create Runes for the first time in centuries. Assist the head Wizard Sedridor in his research and he too may teach you these secrets!
Requirements:
none
Reward:
An Air talisman, free Teleport to the Rune essence by speaking to either Aubury or Sedridor.

Sheep Shearer:
Fred the Farmer's sheep are getting mighty woolly. He will pay you to shear them.
Requirements:
Shears, 20 Wool, and 20 Balls of wool
Reward:
150 Crafting XP and 60gp
•
Shield of Arrav:
Varrockian literature tells of a valuable shield, stolen long ago from the museum of Varrock, by a gang of professional thieves. See if you can track down this shield and return it to the museum. You will need a friend to help you complete this quest
Requirements:
One friend (Who has not done this quest yet) Must be able to kill a level 23 enemy 20 Coins, Armor, and a Weapon
Reward:
600 Coins.

Vampire Slayer:
The people of Draynor village live in constant terror. Their numbers are dwindling, all due to the foul creature lurking in the manor to the north known as a vampire
Requirements:
Able to defeat a Vampire hammer, Armor and Weapon, and a few coins
Reward:
4825 Attack experience.

Witch's Potion:
Become one with your darker side. Tap into your hidden depths of magical potential by making a potion with the help of Hetty the Rimmington witch.
Requirements:
3 coins
Reward:
325 Magic experience.
•
Dragon Slayer:
Prove yourself a true hero. Kill the mighty dragon of Crandor Island and earn the right to buy and wear the powerful Rune plate mail body.
Requirements:
Must be able to kill the level 83 Green dragon Elvarg. Must a member of the Champions' Guild (33 Quest Points) 90 Steel nails, 3 Planks, a Hammer, 2000 gp, an Unfired bowl, a Lobster pot, Silk, a Wizard's mind bomb, Food, Weapon, Armor, a Magic or Ranged attack method, 1 Law and 1 Air rune (If you do not have 33 Magic, or else bring an extra 10K gp).
Reward:
18650 Strength XP, 18650 Defence XP, the right to wear Rune platebody and Green d'hide body, and the right to buy them from Oziach for 65K gp and 7.8K gp, respectively

Free Mini Games
•
Clan Wars:
Description:
Clan Wars was released by Jagex on December 10, 2007, and updated on September 9, 2008. This mini-game is intended to allow clans to war against each other, either in safe or dangerous mode of play.
Recommendations:
Levels: High Combat level High Magic level High Ranged level
How To Get There:
The Clan Wars arena is located in the Wilderness, east of the Bounty Hunter arena. Although located in the wilderness, the Clan wars lobby is safe as it is not considered a part of the wilderness. The nearest bank can be found at the Bounty Hunter lobby.
Walk north from Varrock towards the Clan Wars area.
Use your Games necklace to teleport to the Clan Wars lobby (Members Only).
Use the Carrallangar teleport spell to teleport to the Graveyard of Shadows, just east of the lobby. From there on it is only a short walk to the lobby (requires 84 Magic and access to the Ancient Magicks spellbook).

Duel Arena:
Description:
The Duel Arena is a place in RuneScape where you can fight other players for fun or reward. There are two styles of fighting: dueling, which can be friendly or staked, and Duel Tournaments. The Duel Arena is for F2P players, but to access Duel Tournaments you must be a member. Unlike Bounty Hunter, the Duel Arena is a "safe" mini-game and if you die you will only lose items that you have staked.
Recommendations:
Levels: High Combat level High Magic level High Ranged level
How To Get There:
The Duel Arena lies just north-east of Al Kharid, west of Lumbridge, and south-east of Varrock. You can teleport to the Duel Arena using a Ring of Duelling or using the Gnome Glider.

Fist of Guthix:
Description:
Some druids have settled at the site Fiara guards, the Fist of Guthix. They want Fiara to keep watch over the games to make sure they do not get out of control. In this mini-game you will face 2 rounds, first being the hunted then being the hunter or vice versa. There are some great rewards for those who are fierce enough to hunt down their prey and brave enough to be the prey.
Note:
Fist of Guthix is available to all players, but some rewards are only accessible to Members. It's a 'Safe' minigame. If you die while playing Fist of Guthix you will not lose any items. The entrance to the cave lies in the Wilderness so watch out for Revenants!
Recommendations:
Good and light armor and a weapon are recommended because this is combat-based Mini-Game and may contain lots of running.
Location:
The cave of Fist of Guthix can found in the Wilderness, just north of Varrock and south of Chaos Temple. Note that Revenants are wandering around the entrance.

The Great Orb Project:
Description:
Ever wondered how runes are actually created when you turned essence into runes? In another dimension wizards have conducted a thorough investigation in the process of crafting runes. They have come to the point that none of them can agree on whether the green or yellow orbs are more important in the process. The ongoing dispute has lead to this team base mini-game
Requirements:

History of Runescape
• Runescape began in 1998 as an idea by two brothers: Paul and Andrew Gower.
• In 2001, the game began to run by a company called Jagex Limited.
• The game changed over the years and in 2004 Runescape became the most players know today.
• There are millions of registered players in Runescape, and hundreds of thousands of them are playing the game at any one time, these players are from all over the world.
• Runescape is most popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, and Australia.
