Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
^ wasn't expecting anyone to pull this out. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this as well. It is suprising how well the story carries over such a long time after its writing.
I have read three great ones this month: The Death of Ivan Illych, Tolstoy (novella); The Guide, R.K. Narayan; Chelkash, Gorky (longer short story).
I would highly recommend all three of these eminently readable books. The first and third are likely available for free online.
/e almost forgot to mention The Stranger, Camus. Read the Matthew Ward translation. I have read a couple translations of it, and his is so much better it's ridiculous.
