I was running auctions for D2 items for awhile with a time limit.

15 minute auction for 141 shako

like that, but i could never see the time to end it. would be a cool option.

would be interesting to install a clock on the post itself and have options to as how its set off (first post by another user etc)

This is so that other users could see it as well...and user accountability could be managed better. I like this idea. Voted yes :)

o wait...make a new topic with a poll lol.

And time stamps on posts don't cut it for setting time limits that everyone can see. After the time limit the thread could expire (close) and the winner can be highlighted.

While this would be a nice idea, I have a feeling that it may lag the site/server too much. Hopefully such a thing would be feasible.

create topic, auto-close after XX minutes. you gotta figure out the last valid bid yourself.

this way i really like it. any other way is crap.

auctions could run with timers. timed auctions would get more attention, and you have the chance to get great deals if you pay attention

yes this is what i had it mind. You could also target the first valid bid if time start was based on first bid.

Something tells me though that this would kill the server. I'm not a coder though so id have no idea.

/e and a key is that everyone would have to see the timer start and when it expires (not just the person doing the auction). This would produce the accountability and would elimate whining noobs that got shanked at the last second or w/e. It is what it is. Also, it would obviously be an optional function you can activate, since oftentimes its not an auction at all and its a legit bin/res.
