Before I posted in this forum, I made sure to gather some info. in the "general help" forum to educate myself. I didn't get a grand consensus on this issue, and no mod had posted in there either with a clear resolution.

Summary:

Obviously, there is already a way to change your entire name for 1500 fg. No problems there at all.
But what if the name you want is taken, and the user will never log on again and has never posted!
This is pretty annoying to some people, especially due to some of the names that have taken, and can never be used again.
I've been informed that some of these "accounts" weren't originally users at all...but program accounts that were used once to load data onto jsp.
I'm also aware that many of them may have been users that made several HUNDREDS of multis perhaps in the full illegal intention to sell the "godly" named accounts, or they may still be multis of current users. My reasoning is simple: a user with no posts, 03 join date, and no fg, and who hasn't logged in since they joined practically, had no intention of further using it.

Criteria Proposal:

I propose the following criteria for accounts in which names can be "transferred" from (all of which has to be met 4/4):

1. account MUST have been made in the following time period: 2002-2004
2. account MUST have 0 posts (no exceptions)
3. account MUST have 0 fg (no exceptions)
4. account MUST have not been logged in since the year it was created.

There could be other criteria as well (as I am not 100% informed on the nature of these accounts)
This criteria at the least would ensure that no users that were intending to re-log on and use their accounts have their accounts taken away or name modified.

To sweeten the deal and to be fair to all parties involved: give incentive to the admins, make this function cost 3000 fg to perform (double the regular name change cost).

Important Note:

It would require a topic sticky posted in the "general help" forum almost identical do the "donate for me please" topic. In this topic people can offer 3k fg for a name that is currently trapped on one of these accounts and provide a link to the said account (accounts can be found via address book). Mods/trusted/mediators can assist in this topic and get the process of the name transfer started after the fg has been sent with reason. If its possible and if the account meets the criteria, your account name would be changed to the name you want after a certain amount of time (in a similar manner in which stars are added) and a pm will be sent confirming this. The account you took the name from, can either be deleted (in theory) or changed to some random number if the former isn't possible.
Now I'm not sure about that part...would it be possible to activate an instant name change on both accounts?


Not proposing this: I AM NOT proposing a clock be set on accounts by which they will "expire" like on d2. This would only apply to accounts made during that time period and with the conditions I have outlined above (as this time period seems to be unique with accounts made like that). People that just haven't logged on in awhile, those names cannot be transferred ever again according to my idea, ever.

Also I AM NOT proposing that all such accounts be deleted and then left for other users to grab. That may just encourage or re-encourage the making of multis like what may have occurred long ago.


Caution: Now if this idea in some way conflicts with the interests of Njaguar or any of the other admin, I'd understand completely and I'd appreciate if the topic is closed. It will not be reposted. A simple reason (however vague you want to make it) will suffice. Also please give me any modification suggestions or any reasons why this could never work. Thanks.

This is suggested every single day, and I can guaruntee you that it won't happen as Paul has already specified that it won't.

I'd like to have such an option (well maybe not for 3k, but nvm).
However I think it won't happen :/

Since I don't plan on changing my e-name, I choose one of the NOs.

Did you ever think that those accounts were created for a reason?

Maybe accounts that obviously haven't been used their names should be changed to their user # & If they decide to come back they'll have a PM in their inbox saying they get a free name change.

Eg. I'm user #755793

/e If their user # is already taken as a name, then simply the name won't be changed.

I have a feeling most suggestions aren't as clear and detailed as this version though. Most are probably vague and thus seem impractical to the naked eye. I have specified it to the point that it could actually be plausible...at least the way I see it.
