Huhu,

I know its been suggested, and also rejected earlier, but that was a while ago..
Also, I even know that there is an other topic, but hey: more propositions / ideas, and eventually one will fit :P

I was thinking about something like:

The devil is in the Details:

If someone logged in with a "staff account", it would just show the spoiler tag's content anyway

- it would follow the site's overall, static'ish & clean layout

- no extra work to the moderators by opening down a [+] [-] panel all the time

- only pure text would be allowed, perhaps even limited to a specific length, like 200 chars (with a total of 3 lines? more empty space could be annoying)

- quote? not sure about that, but it wouldn't be a problem I think if it wouldn't quote that part

- I can't come up with other limitation's right know, would have to test it first

Summarizing: with the right rules, like I suggested some to start with (and which is Paul really good at, making the right ones), I hardly believe it could be abused

Why? Where?

Recently, I find myself in a situtation daily (actually usually more than once), where I would like to use this feature on the International Forums (or Other Languages)

- movie topics
- tv series topics (there is a specific game of thrones topic, a big problem also ^^)
- more uncommon things, like we like to watch LOL or DOTA games and discuss it (even at live), but obviously not everyone able to watch it at the same time; still, they check the topics to regular in-game stuff
- [couple of other cases..]

PS:

There's a suggestion about it here: link (although I see you mentioned it)

Yes, moderators could have it automatically disabled, however...moderators can't view every single post to check for flames, spam, piracy information, etc, there are simply too many posts per day. The user base is needed to see and report things. If users only see certain things by clicking a spoiler button, there is a much lower chance of it being reported. If it takes longer for it to be reported, it would take longer to be dealt with.

I think it could be a great addition, but people would use it to abuse, and once again the part ruins it for the whole.

people rather enjoy reporting voluntarily, I wouldn't be affraid of that

also if its not a specific topic (like one from the list above)*, people WILL check its content anyway

I went over pretty much every type of possible bad behaviours, and couldn't find anything extraordinary

+2*
- could be disabled on the Trading Grounds tho, like YouTube

- only one tag per post

also I think we need a little bit more possitive attitude in here, it should be about finding a solution, not going against everything because it was once refused :P voting is just formality imo in this very case; this is something needed by all, but without side effects.. and thats what we need to eliminate, not the other

Even in other games section, people are always spoiling the storyline. I think it discourages people from even participating in the discussion topic because they don't want to subject themselves to spoilers.
100% yes for spoiler prevention!
