Here is what I need to do:
Code
Your "mission", should you wish to accept it, (and you must!), is
as follows:
To visit the "Special Collections" area of the
Killam Library (fifth floor); search out some
"late romantic"* music; tell me what it is
(title, opus #, performer etc.);
listen to it; react to it;
tell me why you like/dislike it; and tell me
why it still belongs to the "romantic" style
even though it was composed well after the
Romantic Period (which was the 2nd quarter to late 19th century).
(ca. 250 words)
* Music written in "late" nineteenth or early twentieth
century that continues the spirit of the Romantic Period while extending its emotional boundries. Also referred to as “post-romantic” music.
Your "mission", should you wish to accept it, (and you must!), is
as follows:
To visit the "Special Collections" area of the Killam Library (fifth floor); search out some
"Impressionist" music; tell me what it is
(title, opus #, performer etc.);
listen to it; react to it;
tell me why you like/dislike it; and tell me
why it belongs to the "impressionist" style.

I am a computer science student possessing very little knowledge of classical music. I missed the class where the key attributes of these two styles were explained, and the prof is being very stern about posting notes online and whatnot.
I am paying for this:
-1 piece of music from each style (I can google and get the opus # and performer, etc if I must, but would be nice if it was included)-What defines the style (stuff like sweeping melodies, many tempo changes, etc, that define the style - nothing that can be simply taken from wikipedia as I have done this in the past through a wikipedia article for Baroque music and only received a 79% because I included things about the history and such rather than what actually distinguishes the audible music from other styles)You can post in the thread or PM me, and if it looks good I'll send 500fg your way! Should be really no problem for a classical music expert.
