11 was imo one of the greatest games ever made. I am not an ffxi fanboy per say either.
The battle and party mechanics were perfect for real strategy implementation. Everyone was a real role player in their job. There was no running around frantically murdering.
It was so fun putting together tight knit groups of certain jobs and seeing if you could accomplish something.
At its peak, gil sellers and cheating hnm linkshells ruined the fun but I think that's mostly done now.
I seriously loved that game and I need to stop talking about it before I get sucked in again haha.
My ONLY problem with that game was that things such as traveling and setting up certain missions took too long. It could take a half hour to get to your location and even longer to find the jobs you needed.
If the damn Japanese didnt steal my account I would still be playing.
Customer support told me I have to get some form filled out and notarized at secretary of state to get mg account back...kind of a joke... So I can't play unless I buy someone else's acct I guess
My advice: become a RDM and try to solo everything in the game . Look up videos by Avesta on YouTube. He's the best final fantasy player to ever play hands down. And he played on a playstation so no ridiculous extended macros like us PC users had. I have timers telling me when spells read off and auto recast..he has none of that and is leaps and bounds better than anyone
